Becker bushwalk (pic heavy)

Beautiful pics Springy, thanks for sharing with others what i refer to as Gods country. Looks like you had an awesome day mate, me and you will have to go out one day if im ever up in your kneck of the woods.

Tell me more about that Bob cooper survival kit? Havent seen one before? what are they worth? I have the identical boots! i ordered them from Cabelas in the US, great boots but they tend to get a bit too toasty for my feet. But wouldnt hesitate strapping them on in winter they are superb qaulity, only wish i could wear them more.

Where i work, i was talking to a collegue this morning who is a Paramedic about my bush trips with my boy and my constant worrying of snakes he is getting me some purposely made snake bite bandages the Ambos use that arent availabe to the public. If i get a few ill send one your way brother.

He tells me Eastern browns will strike low, giving you more time, but King browns strike high often hitting the Torso - giving you a very short window to get treated.

Anyway mate great pics and awesome thread (especially like the 1st pic)

Cheers Gas

Cheers my brother. Would love to host ya if you ever came up. The ultimate trek that I've wanted to do since I was 16 is to start at the 3 sisters at Katoomba and head due south through the valley staying on the western side of that massive dam until you get to Ivan Milats old "hunting" grounds then head east to get picked up somewhere around Berrima or Mittagong. That would be huge.

The kit I bought after seeing a prototype owned by Bobs good friend Rich Hungerford. He's ex-SAS and runs all sorts of survival courses in the hinterland west of the Sunshine Coast. Did a course with Rich a while back. Super top bloke. He was the primary wilderness survival instructor for the SAS for many years. The kits pretty cool but is just a back up in case I lose everything else I have. I've changed a few things in it to make it better though. I think I paid around 80 bone for it.

Yeah those boots are awesome but I hear you man. Get your sweat box on! I put up with it knowing that it should (should) stop a bite. Bloody king browns though. Didn't know they struck so high! They're probably wielding BK9s as well!

Mate, if you sent me one of those bandages I'd be eternally grateful. Probably a knack to using them though. You're a true brother. Thanks heaps Gas..

Yeah Springy,

I heard once than an explorer preparing to go to Australia went to the library and asked for books on all the venomous, and poisonous critters in Australia to take with him. They told him he would need a truck, so he said ok how about a list of all the critters that Arent dangerous. The Librarian went to the desk and scribbled on a napkin, then handed it to him. it said " Some of the sheep"

Silverthorn, that's one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard! I nearly wet myself laughing! It's made my week! Hilarious bro! Love it!

LOL.

That's crazy stuff BeeKay. Just watched some vids of the eastern brown. Damn are those things fast and hostile! Would not want to cross paths with one of those.

I thought this video of Jumping jacks was pretty cool too. Again, creatures I would not want to see around.

Yeah bud, easterns KNOW how toxic they are so they'll take on anything.

Those jumping Jacks are viscious little turds. And man they hurt so bad! I only got stung a few times on the feet but I was nearly in tears from it. Love that video though! The sound effects were hilarious!

I would love to take credit for that joke Springy, but its a Terry Pratchet joke, just converted to Australia and with the magic library turned into a regular one ..lol

Thanks for the pictures. Australia is one of the places I have always wanted to visit.

Terry Pratchett, YES! Tho the Librarian in the Discworld books.....

Great thing about living here in the sometimes frigid Northeast US.....all the poisonous stuff freezes to death. 'Cept for greenheads. And our state bird, the blackfly. Still a sh!tload better than poisonous snakes, spiders and whatnot.

Thanks for the great pics, Springy. Sorry your trip was cut short....nothing like a huge laceration to change your plans. Did that once just before my second daughter was born; stabbed myself with a (of all things) jab saw - had a lot of things I was trying to get done before the impending birth - and spent the afternoon in the emergency room. My wife and my other daughter took the opportunity to tour the maternity ward while I was waiting. Better to take care of the bleeding. You need that stuff to stay on the inside of your body. How else would you maintain your alcohol system?

Beautiful pics, great kit and steel. Looks like a good time, thanks for sharing.

Well played though Silverthorn. I'm still laughing from it!

We'll always be here mate and we'd love to have you. And your dollar is kickin our dollars ringhole at the moment so it'd be really worth the visit.

Haha! You're exactly right GSOM. Had to replenish it with a good dose of the bourbonics later that evening.. Hey isn't that what a jab saw is for? A bit of pre-birth ceremonial blood letting? Glad your wife and your little one made use of the time though. Whilst abandoning you to bleed to death in the ER :p thanks for commenting buddy. Always appreciated..

No worries Trade. Yeah I can't wait to get back out there for a longer period. The days and nights are getting cooler here now which makes it much more comfortable to go camping. I think next time I'm going to try wearing some chain mail armor though.. Thanks for chiming in here bud. Love hearing from you..

What a thread! I was originally going to say that 2 of my favorite things to peruse through are hiking pics and pack content pics, you checked both of those boxes. As I kept reading I learned a good amount about Australian wildlife and was highly entertained by the humor in here. Springy, you are a funny guy. Keep the lengthy posts coming!

EDIT: Wanted to add that I'm sorry to hear about your finger getting cut. Pics in the bite thread looked horrendous, glad the finger didn't come off completely!

Thanks silver needle! Appreciated buddy! Yes I'm also glad my finger decided to stick around. I like that finger. It's good for pointing and such..

Yeah, like I said earlier, I'm a bit of a gear junkie. I like having things that can serve multiple purposes. You'll notice in the pics those orange garbage bags. I cut the bottom out of one and taped it to the top of the other which sort of makes a sleeping bag. I actually slept in it one night in a shelter I made myself at a survival course run my an ex-SAS guy up north of me. Whilst it will keep me perfectly dry, it sure as hell is NOT warm. I froze my wedding vegetables off.

I was always the class clown at school. And now I'm considered to be the work clown. And I guess one day I'll be the retirement resort clown. Or the homeless bum under the bridge clown. Depends where my life leads me I guess. Hehe, clown. That word sounds stupid now..

I've got a couple of trips and treks that I want to do soon, and these ones will be much longer than my little bushwalk. And to be sure I'll be bringing you guys along. My knives are literally screaming at me to use them, so I must abide.

Man, those are some awesome pics. Makes me jealous for sure. Thanks for posting these:thumbup:

Honestly Kero, you have nothing to be jealous of. You have such a beautiful country. My ultimate dream is to experience the American wilderness. I love it over there and truly can't wait to come back and I hope the next time I do I can get out and experience your wilds even in some minor capacity (with a Becker of course).

"In this evenings headlines on CBS. Idiot Australian tourist gets attacked and eaten by bears as he attempts to make survival shelter".
