Becker Companion Knife Blanks on Ebay; are these real?

I was on Ebay and came across Becker Companion blanks for sale. Does anyone know if these are real? The story is plausible, but does anyone have any experience with these? With a little personal sweat equity I thought I may be able to put together a decent Becker ILO waiting for Kabar to come out with the new series

Any thoughts?

I can't comment on the authenticity of the piece in the auction, but I can say that after Schrade and Camillus closed quite a bit of their respective parts (blades, sheathes, etc...) did show up on the market. This is the first BKT blade I've seen.

I hope they are real because I got a patrol machete and a BK9.

I dont have a Rockwell/Brinell Hardness tester but I whacked them with a hammer and then with a hammer and nail and barely scratched the surface.

If you have a better test let me know and I will try it for you.

I just bought one of the beckers and one of the Jerry Fisk OVB small bowies I should have them soon. I am pretty sure they are real there are a bunch of them out there. I have already bought a blade blank that was a Camillus kitchen knife and just had to handle it my wife loves it. Doug

Yup they are real. And you just bumped the selling price by 30%.
Which is why we STRONGLY discourage linking to live auctions. There's even an infraction for auction-spotting.

How about you edit out the link so people who really need to go there can find it for themselves but not get led by the hand to interfere with legit buyers.

It better be real. I just got a Becker Companion for a decent price. Okay, it needs sharpening, handles and a sheath, but that's a fairly easy project. Seems like the only other good quality bare blades on the market are Scandis. A bunch of what I've found are "Pakistan stainless' (also known as "trash"). Too bad somebody can't offer a deal like this on a regular basis.

I bought one too!
(but before i saw this thread)
I always wanted a Campanion and now with a little re-handling work i'm going to have one to "play" with!
Cost me about the same price as my Mora 2000.
Woohoo!

Thanks all for the input. I had just bought 3 Mora 2000s a few weeks ago for the kids and I have a BK-7 right now for my main fixed blade. Wish I would have found this before. Still will likely pick one up to build my own knife for the first time.

As far as the Patrol Machete blanks go, they need to be ground. Does the heat generated in the grinding affect the heat treat of the blades?

orrey45 was your blank ground and just in need of sharpening? Thanks.

No, the machete and BK9 I got were straight up blanks. Rectangular corners all around.

From what I understand you will not affect the heat treat as long as you take you time and do not let heat build up in the steel. An angle grinder or bench wheel grinder are no-no's because they cause heat buildup rapidly. Using sandpaper, hand files and belt grinders are much more preferable due to the slow heat buildup...as far as I know.

BTW, it's Campanion, not Companion... I have one of the original Blackjack Campanions in 1095... heck of a tough blade.

Have two of the blanks... Want to finnish one 'Tacticool' with G-10 and keydex. The other I am hoping to finnish with wood handles and leather sheath.

I would doubt you could use a hand file on a good heat-treated blade and hand sanding takes a long long time, I'd go the belt grinder and really take your time, I'd go so far as to say stick your thumb behind the part you're grinding and when you feel the heat build, dunk it in the water. Good luck, I tried to buy three blanks one guy had up but when I sent a message to the guy re shipping internationally the reply was, and I quote" , " .

I passed. something wasn't right.

Are they already heat treated? If they are blanks, they should not be heat treated yet? Run a file accross one and check.
