I am looking gor a good knife for outdoor use (hunting, survival, etc). What are the opinions on the Becker Companion and how well does it hold up to continued hard use? Thanks in advance.

4150,
I hate to give opinions on products my company produces, but.......I can't imagine ANY durability problems arising with the CAMPANION. I have personally abused one beyond anything a knife could concievalby used for...with nothing more than wear on the finish.

I suggest that you try the search function here on BF, and I believe that you will find plenty of testimonials. Maybe some memebers will post replys also to your request.

Thanks for the interest!

Roger that. If you can damage a Campanion, you could probably tear up an anvil. You would be hard pressed to find anything of like Quality for anything like the price.

Will,
Could you comment on the recommended angle for sharpening the Campanion? Should I use my DMT whetstone or would the Sharpmaker be OK. Is the angle of the Sharpmaker too steep?

I agree that this knife is one tough hombre!

Thank you, Will.

I think you should find one and handle it personally. The only issue I can think of is the bulk of the handle. If it fits for the way you use your hunting knives it should be a real winner.

Gregg,
I'm sorry to take so long getting back to you on sharpening, ...but here goes.

We sharpen by hand. Our target for the BK&T CAMPANION is approx. 35 degrees. There will be some variance due to the human factor. I checked the CAMPANION I have here at the house as a 'user' and its about 33 degrees. I have used this COMPANION pretty extensively, but it had no major bevel damage[no chips or dents], so to sharpen I used the 40 degree holes on my SHARPMAKER, and had it shaving in a few strokes.

Hope this helps.
