Becker "Desert Tan" knives

Ichor,

Its my fault: I saw the Desert Crewman and fell in love with it. Since I'm willing to pay the extra $10 (I didn't even know it costs $10 and could care less) Becker sure as heck ain't going to lower the price till they have my hard earned (actually my wife's if all goes according to plan, wish me luck) $ in their grubby money hungry hands! :)

I see that you have 3 choices (actually 4, but not buying a knife isn't really a choice!):

- Buy the regular and kick yourself since now you're going to have to buy another knife to get what you really want
- Buy the regular knife and paint it yourself
- Buy the Desert Tan knife and completely forget about the extra $10 you paid for it about 1.09876400985 seconds after you get it your hot little (big? whatever) hands and try it out.

I hope this helps.

One of the camillus reps, maybe Ethan himself, said the tan costs extra cause of start up costs, limited runs, blah blah. Also said the tan grips only LOOK grippier due to pattern. Same smooth finish. Pay 25% extra for tan color so I can look like a desert rat wannabe? Black is beautiful, baby!

Actually they ARE grippier. The Tan scales have a coating that is mildly more abrasive than the stock handles.

Have you ever handled one??????

The BKT desert series is an awesome value.

Considering that BKT/Camillus makes tens of thousands of knives and black and a small fraction in tan, the upcharge certainly makes sense to me. We are talking about $10 bucks at RETAIL prices---about 6-7 bucks in the real world.

that depends on what you're lying down on :)
when we're doing vehicle manoeuvres, we turn brown
the best is when you're attacking an objective that's composed of soft mud
then you turn brick red

Ichor,

I have your justification! Where I live, the Desert Tan is the opposite of camouflage. That is why I like it. If you set it down outside somewhere (while working or camping) it is easier to find than a black knife. It is also easier to find in most gear bags where other equipment is darker.
