Becker FAQ - Discussion Thread - Talk about the FAQ here!

Bladite, do you do house calls? My attic is a freakin' mess.

There might even be a Becker knife or two up there. :D

Nice work, man.

Some things I've found...

-Map discussion link is broken.
-BK11 micarta handle should be edited to note that the handles will not fit the BK11 CSM out of the box, but require some modification. As it is, it reads that the scales fit any variation of the BK11 including the CSM.
-Text under the Camillus BK11 picture says that it is part of the KaBar Era. Should read "Camillus Era"
-BK9 has similar error. KA-BAR BK9 specs say that it is Camillus era.

What is the link under "Modification Threads of Note" pointing to? It just takes me back to main Becker index. As far as suggestions for that area, definitely landshark, the couple that show the handle stippling good and close, the ones from a few days back with the guy that had the golf-ball-style dimples in his scales, and the ones that show step-by-step how to strip the blades.

work in progress - link is temporary :p

Might suggest that for the modifications thread we suggest some simple rules for the pictures of said mods, and then maybe copying the pictures over to a dedicated picture hosting account, say on flickr, so that we don't have to worry about the pics disappearing a few months down the road. One of my biggest complaints with any customization or modification thread on the internet is that people take down their pictures after awhile and then you are left with no idea what they actually did. And decent sized pictures are a must. I use flickr and have never deleted anything from it, and all my old stuff is still out there. I have never got a "bandwidth exceeded" notice, and it just plain works. More work, but then you get what you put into it.

Just my two cents anyways.

Thats a good idea. Bladite is the master of the house for keeping things together. He'll see this and think, WOW, I should have thought of that.LOL

well, all MY pictures, hundreds and hundreds are on paid hosting...

if someone were to say, pay for a forum hosted account of similar nature, then we could put pix there... just more work for your mods. of course, people would have to give permission for storing their photos/etc.

going forward would be easy-ish, fixing the backlog, serious work. i have a paid job right now :) heck, i worked 44 hrs mon-wed already. ouch.

All my pictures, hundreds and hundreds as well, are on a free Flickr account. While I can't mess with any past the most recent 200, the ones that were previously posted from the account that I can no longer see in my Flickr account are still available where they were posted out on the internet. It's free man. What don't you like about free? And for something of an archival nature like this, once they are up they don't really need messed with anyways. Not saying it is the only solution, but it is what I have used for years now and I have had not 1 single problem out of it. NO bandwidth exceeded stuff, no images temporarily unavailable. Just my pics, where I posted em, in good working order. They even say in their TOS that your stuff after 200 pics will not be available for anything in your account, but that if posted in the internet or whatever, that they will still be there just like when you posted them.

As far as people giving permission for use of their pics, yeah, I guess we should do that, and I suppose even let them request to have them removed if they really want to, but I know it is a royal pain the rectum when I click what looks to be an awesome thread only to find the pics of this awesome thing are either gone or have exceeded their bandwidth for the day/week/month/year, etc... I personally think if people don't want others to take their pics and repost them or whatever then they really shouldn't put them on the internet in the first place. It is anarchy in there, and everything is up for grabs. Again, just my two cents.

Do we even have a backlog for the modifications thread? I didn't know we had even decided what mods would be going in there.

Updated the Master List of Lists... a job far from over...

in particular, updated pointers to contests (and old ones), sheaths, and what not...

should add in Guyon's handle mod thread (and others) and so forth, but bed call ;)

and look people, you wnat a list of list s on mods? nominate the best!

in my copious free time, i'll look up more threads to hunt down and add, and categories, and stuff. so much stuff!

Vote for Bladite, Best Mod. We all really appreciate the work that goes in to the archives. Definitely the most Becker info on the web. ;)

well, there's some Camillus archives. i'll note that most of the pictures are Guyon's and mine :)

i've looked around the other forums and places. some few have started informational archives about the history, marks, names, places... unless there's hidden ones behind passwds and locked doors, i'm just not seeing a lot of stuff out there. then again, i'm not looking too hard ;)

i am heartily amused at reports of folx with smart phones surfing the FAQ while out and about to find information while they are at stores, shows, and pawn shops. hah.

some long overdue updates to the FAQ and such. not that anybody noticed. nope. nothing to see. go back to drinking beer :D

more update to the FAQ... added a lot of the common and busy links relating to blade show, the new knives, JAB, Ritter/RSK, and such.

feel free to point out more links that need "meta stickies", eh?

doing the work so you don't have to search so much :)

additional updates, tweaks and additions to FAQ and Blade DB

esp the riddle of the steel :) once and for all. almost.

even more updates to the FAQs, listed the more recent contests and passaround, clarified some content, made some headers MORE EXCITING, you know, that stuff.

any suggestions, let me/us know...

updates to FAQ and DB to reflect new tweener and machax, and other information, like shot show 2012 pointers
