Is there any difference in the Desert Sand models and the standard models besides the color. Are the blade coatings or handles different

Also what are the new extreme handles everyone is talking about?

For you Becker owners out there:
Crewman or Campanion
general use on the ranch and camping

No, there is no difference other than color.
I would take the Crewman over the Campanion, the sheath is better.

p.s. I LOVE my CU/7...built like a tank.

Welcome to Bladeforums! I'll move this thread to the Camillus Forum for you....

For ranch and camping use, my Companion would really fill the bill. It is wide enough to have a nice edge bevel (read sharp), yet thick enough for all those duties that you see on a ranch when there's nothing else around. This is a stout blade! I don't have a crewman, but if it's just a short version of my CU/7, then the companion is a lot stronger. My 2 cents.

I don't think it's just a shorter version. I believe the Companion has a thicker blade. The Crewman is 0.188" thick. I think I read somewhere that the Companion is closer to .23"? Someone can correct me on this.

The Companion is stouter and the edge is thicker. I prefer the Crewman.
I do like the blade shape of the Companion better though.
