Phil,

Titan pointed me to a web site regarding the new Cuda and other products. The site says:

"Camillus will also be offering many models of Becker Knife company products. These fine products were produced by Blackjack Knives until Blackjack went bankrupt. They are large Carbon steel fixed blade knives, Bolo style Kukri type blades, short swords and stainless steel dive knives. Hopefully they will be available this Fall."

Can we get pics of the big blades, bolos and/or khukuris?

Mike

Phil,

You holding out on us?

No hiding from you guys!!

Mike, you are correct, we are proud to announce that we will be producing many of the outstanding products designed by Ethan Becker, of BK&T (Becker Knife & tool).
BK&T was a separate company to Blackjack, although Blackjack did produce the knives for a period.
Details of which items will be produced first are still under review.
Pics are unavailable at this time as the ink is still wet on the deal. I promise I will keep you posted.
If any of you are familiar with BK&T products, I would love to hear your thoughts on the designs you like.

Phil,

Well I'll be! Wallace Fennell's son Will finally helped me locate a BK&T Brute that I had long sought after. And I had to pay a premium to boot. Of the BK&T line, I most favor the Brute (obviously) and the Companion. Now the return of Dive-Rescue knife would be welcome by a lot of non-military folks in uniform. I'd like to see these 3 at the top of your priorities list.

Now the BIG question. What steel will you be using? The originals were of 1095 except the rescue knife which I believe was 440 series.

Bald1,
Those will definately be some of the first releases.
Materials are still being discussed. The real originals were made of 0170-6.
We are going to try real hard to produce knives as good as the originals that were handmade by Ethan Becker.

Phil,

I am pretty sure 0170-6 is really 1095. I agree the two you should make first are the brute and companion. Please do not use 440a or 420. Actually I think a tool steel like D2 or A2 is the best way to go. Since those would be a good compromise between the stainless steels and something like say 5160 or 1095. I believe if you go with a tool steel you would have a vastly better product.

Regards,

Tom Carey

Tom,

Actually 0170-6 is a very different steel to 1095.
The 0170-6 has chromium, vanadium & silicon.1095 has none of these elements.

Praise God and Phil Gibbs! One of my very favorite knives ever is the Becker Knife & Tool Magnum. I'd love to have another, made out of whatever razor-sharpenable, fairly rust-resistant steel was originally used. (I'm guessing it wasn't 1095, because mine hasn't rusted, even without much special attention). Well-designed, high-quality knives, at decent prices. Way to go, Camillus! (Can you tell I'm excited?)

Don't foreget the MACHAX. I have one I carry on my four wheeler. It is a great light weight chopper.

Phil,

If Camillus ever reintroduces the old Becker Knife and Tool/ Hank Reinhardt kukris in say 5160 3/16 or better stock, with a fine heat treat, it would be awfully interesting.

Stay safe and all the best, Phil <----<

Phil,

Obviously we're all ecstatic over this Becker news. Curious though... I've heard that Blackjack didn't properly safeguard the trade names of many of their acquisitions. Is this true? What about Ek? I know many of us find favor with the Ek M5 single edged bowie knife. Any prospects of adding this to your line up?

Bob,

Great question! I for one would like to see a company such as Camillus bring back most of the Ek line. I believe that Camillus would be able to make the best knives ever made with the Ek name if they did choose to make them, none custom shop of course.

Regards,

Tom Carey

Phil,

If you guys have the rights to BK&T, then you absolutely have to produce the MACHAX. I've owned one for over 10 years & it's definitely one of the best bush tool kukri-style blades ever made (esp. the standard Machax & its superb courdura sheath by Eagle or Blackhawk). I teach outdoor survival (& former army reserve NCO & Officer) & spend several weeks each year camping under primitive conditions in all 4 seasons (including real winter - Calgary AB Canada). I constantly recommend this tool, or poor substitutes to all my outdoor students & colleagues - it is excellent for chopping, limbing, shaving (bows, atlatls, spears, etc.) & tons of other warm weather chores (in winter I use an axe &/or bow saw). I once chopped down an abandoned power pole with the Machax in less than 10 mins w/o significant discomfort - I have a photo & a scanner if you wish to see it. It is far better designed than either of Cold Steel's kukris - not all of us think the only use of a knife is hacking through hunks of manilla rope.
As well, I'd like to get a BK&T Campanion(?) as a sturdy sheath knife - I usually use Mora -type knives or my Chris Reeve 4.5" belt knife (Mountaineer?).
Thanks for the reading, DM Driscoll

I have been searching for a Brute for months now, and it will be a joy to see some new production models!!!

I may even acquire another Rescue Dive Tool just for the toolbox.

Good News,
I look forward to being able to purchase these great designs from a fine company at a reasonable price. I also own some fine Camillus knives that are sharper than many other knives that I have ever owned.

Almost sounds like an ad, but true.

Phil, others interested in BK&T products --
This is my first post. Have Campanion (not Companion, you guys,) which I won in a Blackjack contest not long after their acquisition. Also purchased a Brute. I believe I have the chrome vanadium steel in both. Someday would like to add a Kukri of some variation. I recall that the Blackjack offering of this model was well reviewed. I think their version was 3/16" or thinner, not the 1/4" stout stock of the others.
Enjoying the discussion. Best to Camillus to revive, expand on this line.

oooh ooooh ooooh!!!

Somebody give Phil a raise!! The Becker Campanion is coming back!! yes yes yes!!!!! The Brute is coming with it!! And the ResQ Tool!!!

How come it always seems like I'm the last one to find out about things like this???

Count me in on the waiting list!!

Magnum Camp Knife, that was one that I always kicked myself for not getting.

And what handle materials are you going to use?

You guys have a site yet?

And what is Will Fennell doing these days, I miss him. I was going to buy a Paratus from EDI, but now that he is gone, skip it.

By all means, PLEASE do the Magnum Camp Knife again! It's performance was out of this world, and I'm VERY sorry I sold the one that I had. If anyone has one, by all means let me know. I've got an original Machax that I bought from Ethan Becker personally, back when he was doing the gun show circuit. If anyone is interested in it, let me know. I've got a pic...but that's a shameless plug for selling it

I would be interested in seeing what designs that Ethan had up his sleeve that never made it to production. The khukuri that BK&T was an awesome performer as well. It's about time someone (Camillus) started producing his designs again. Could this be the rise of the fixed blade knife again in the knife world?

Take care,
