Becker Knife & Tool Co Facebook

Welcome, Shelter, to the Becker forums. Glad you stopped in.

No toes stepped on, or any hurt feelings, we just wanted clarification. It looked official enough that some folks were put off about its origins and if it was the "real" BKT facebook page.

I don't think there is problem with a fan page, but changing a few things to alter its intial appearance would be a good idea. Kabar and Ethan are both very protective of the name and the logo, so, my intial statement was a warning is there was malicious intent. Which, I do understand there is not.

I think a fanpage is a great idea, I don't facebook, or there would be an official page already.:D

Thank you for supporting BKT and Kabar, I know Uncle Wierd Beard and Kabar appreciate's it. Perhaps just a change in a few things could make it more clear that it is a fanpage.

Stick around, it would awesome to have you posting with us.

Thanks Slapper for the welcome. I spent a little time in the Wilderness/Survival/Outdoorsy subforum (exact name eludes me) a while ago, mainly to ask questions about some Scandi knives that are popular with those guys, but I haven't been around much lately. I really had no idea this whole FB page thing caused such a stir here because until I was told, this is the first time I have been back on these boards, and I've never been to another subforum than the one I posted in. As to some of the other issues: Of course I pay all due respect to Ethan Becker and all the trials and tribulations he went through to ressurect the company once everything folded. I really did not intend to misrepresent this fan page as being anything other than a fan page... I thought that the measures I had taken were adequate-- so not pleading ignorance, or whatever... A lot of people are getting bent out of shape because they feel I was trying to steal copyrighted material? Or represent that I was affiliated? I can only direct you to read the following: "Disclaimer: This Facebook page is a Community Fan site in NO way affiliated with Becker Knife & Tool, KA-BAR Knives Inc., or any of the individuals mentioned herein. All rights are reserved by the companies, and all product names, descriptions, photos and business information are registered trademarks thereof. All information and photos used were obtained from public search engines. Admin takes no responsibility for content of wall posts, discussions or photos." This is the same disclaimer that appears in the info section of the page. I put it there because the info section is the first thing you would click on if you wanted more info. I would have plastered it all over the page, but I really didn't want it to slap you in the face repeatedly, and I thought it was clear enough. As to my description of the page being hidden in "older posts," I can't really believe anyone would think that I intentionally engineered this to cleverly disappear into the ether once enough posts were written... And as to the disclaimer being camouglaged in another dark alley of the page: again, this is prominently displayed in the info section. At the time I believed that people who wanted more info, would naturally gravitate to the *info* clicky button... Ah well. Hopefully I have not trampled on too many toes or principles, please understand folks that there was no ill-will or hidden motivation intended by creating this page. I just got tired of waiting for someone to make the page up so I did it myself. So. Pretty please, with sugar on top, understand that I am screaming from the rooftops that the page is UNOFFICIAL!!!! UNOFFICIAL!!! UNOFFICIAL!!! Thanks.

Thanks Moose! Much appreciated, I think the boys in BladeForums are quite alright and it's generally a very friendly atmosphere here. I tried to change the page a little to make it appear less official, that seems like the most important issue at hand... Unfortunately FB will not allow me to change the name of the page to reflect that it is a fan page because there are more than 200 people who "like" the page. I guess I could make a post asking everyone to "unlike" the page for 24 hours, and see if FB will allow a name change but I really didn't want to go that route without asking the opinion of everyone here first... Sooo thanks for understanding everyone, and again I appreciate the heads-up that there were issues with the page. Cheers and I am happy for all the hospitality and good words from everyone. -Mike

I clicked the link a minute ago and It is clearly unofficial. Although it looks like Kabar has taken an interest in a good way. IMO it isn't necessary to further change the site.

I like it also ShelterMe.

It would be a good place for updates of the new knives coming out and for everyone here to post some pics of there beckers

Rock on, Mike, soundsl like you gotta hit on your hands:D.

Hey Mike, thanks for stopping by and making those few changes to the page. I hope you don't feel like I was stepping on your tie, and if you do, I'm very sorry. Thanks again.

Hello again all,

Sorry been out of the loop for a while-- at one point I asked for a couple of admins online with this Becker Facebook fan-page and I received interest from a fellow at Ka-Bar who I immediately made an admin. We spoke at length and as a result of our conversation it was agreed that for Ka-Bar to have an official presence to this fan-page, and to better enable dissemination of official information directly from the company, fewer admins, and admins that are directly involved with BKT and Ka-Bar only, would be more beneficial to the page. I think this is a good idea, seeing that the proper info would be handed down, and other sundries could be better managed within the fan-page because the only admins would be a direct link to their respective companies themselves. Soooo, not to urinate in anyone's peanut butter captain crunch, but I believe this is the way to go and I thought an explanation should be in order for why I stopped asking around for admins. Again, this is still a fan-page, even though there is now an official presence from Ka-Bar, and I am only there because I set up the page (since there wasn't one initially). I don't really even pop on to make any changes and I am basically handing over the reigns now that the train is in motion where the page was intended to go when I put it up initially. So I hope everyone enjoys sharing amongst themselves, and the fact that new info posted to the page will come from a bonafide reliable source.

Cheers,

-Mike

Hi Martin, no not at all, I appreciate your letting me know about all the talk and for giving me an opportunity to be able to provide an explanation when people were concerned. Much obliged!

Cheers,

-Mike
