Becker MachAx - Cincinnati - Performance?

KnifeFury, I'm almost positive they don't have the Machax, but you're welcome to try. Heck, they even still have the BK-5 Magnum Camp listed. I don't think they've had one of those in stock for two years or more.

I used to defend Botach against the avalanche of outrages because all of my experiences had been positive. The key, I found was to call in and check on inventory and THEN order via the online cart. Worked like a charm. I ordered quite a few Streamlight Scorpions, a ton of lithium batteries, a Streamlight tac-light for a shotgun, and quite a few other items.

However, my last experience with Botach left a bad taste in my mouth, and I believe I'm done with them for good. It involved a couple of weeks of false information followed by non-responsiveness.

Here is the last email I sent them. I think it speaks volumes that they never even bothered to address this email.

Dear Botach,

You've lost my business for good. Three reasons.

(1) I went to the time and trouble to verify your inventory because I
needed my order to ship promptly. Two separate emails from you (see
below) told me that you had the Becker BK-4, 7, 9, and 10 in stock. Both
emails were apparently false.

(2) I have had difficulty getting anyone via phone. Last week, I left a
message for a call-back. My call was not returned.

(3) I asked in my order to be notified immediately if any knives
were out of stock. I was not notified. I had to call in to verify order
status.

Tonight, after calls on four separate weekdays, I finally got a human
being on the phone instead of a message. Lisa informed me that you only
have the Becker BK 2, 3 and 10 in stock. Those model numbers are almost
entirely different than the indications I got last week via email.

That's it. Three strikes and you're out. Botach will get no more of my
money.

Please be sure my order is cancelled as Lisa indicated it would be.

OMG, Guyon, it seems like you went through hell with these guys! That is the beauty of this forum - to research and avoid things like that! Thank you again! :)

I wouldn't call it hell, but it was annoying to the point that they won't get any more of my money unless they start selling Beckers for a dollar. :D

For entertainment  , I though I would post a link to another thread:

It sounds like "Mountainwind" was thinking along the same lines as myself regarding a BK5 Magnum on Ebay and so started the thread! It seems there are a few out-of-production Beckers on Ebay at the moment!:D

I'll have to watch all these auctions!

By the way, "Guyon", after all those calls/emails I personally would call that "hell". I try to only let my Wife and Kids give me that much grief (although I did recently have issues with a new Dell computer that was indeed hell  !)! Hopefully it worked out in the end.

These came with the classic Eagle brand sheath.

This one is still up for grabs.

n2s, you got my attention. :D

Just sent you a PM and an email.

I don't know if Camillus is going to make it. Maybe they will. That said, some older knives and some strange knives came out of the plant when Schrade went under. Be interesting to watch and see what comes out of the Camillus factory in the near future.

"not2sharp" MachAx is the same vintage as that of one of the MachAx's on ebay.

"Guyon" if you do scoop it up from him I would be interested in knowing what you guys think it is worth versus what the one below might go for on Ebay (especially since they appear to be the same knife with the same sheath):

That was cheap. The dreaded Botach used to have the cheapest list prices around, and they sold the BK-4 for $69.95.

$56 is like a wholesale price.

Man, that Brute went for about $78. Another cheap one. I'd like to pick up a spare Brute at some point. Have one to use and one to put back.

'Tis the season! ;) Of course that is about how much I paid for my Brute about a year ago.

Of course the Cincinnati MachAx is at $117.50 (current Ebay status 2 days to go) which is more than double the Camillus MachAx! Of course I did find "DOC-CANADA"'s article interesting since it states MSRP was $129.00 on the Cincinnati MachAx when it was in prodiction!

I have a Becker Machax warrior Cincinnati, that I have had for about 12 or 13 years, now. I love the knife it was my knife of choice for camping and hunting for a long time and served me well. It's still in great shape, but after I found out it was a little rare I retired it from use, great knife though.

Kind of hard to go by MSRP, especially on the Beckers. Here are the MSRP's listed at the Camillus site:

BK1 - $158.95
BK2 - $113.50
BK3 -$170.00
BK6 -$113.50
BK7 - $79.50
BK77 - $390.99
BK9 - $96.50
BK10 - $74.80
BK11 - $51.95

I didn't pay anywhere near MSRP for any of these, even some of the harder to find ones like the Brute.

Glad I put these up as a matter of record. Does anyone know what MSRP was for the BK-4 and BK-5?

that seems really expensive to me. i was able to buy one about a year? ago, in minty fresh condition, for $50. nice knife, traded it for something quite desirable. got another one for less than $80 later (karma?). mmm, anything for $99 seems spendy. unless YOU have to have it :>

i'm surprised that black machax went so cheap - i'd have actually expected more. already having one, i wanted for sure to make sure someone could grab it. there's more in the pipe.

the brute that went buy seems to be about average NIB price, not bad, not terrible. wouldn't mind have a beater model though. make a nice utility blade for the large khukris :>

Kind of hard to go by MSRP

Agreed "Guyon", usually use see knives going for just over 1/2 the MSRP value. That is why it kills me that most manufacturers like Cold Steel, TOPS, etc... try to sell their knives on there websites for full MSRP price!

I have a Becker Machax warrior Cincinnati, that I have had for about 12 or 13 years, now.

Does anyone know during what time period were these MachAx's made in Cincinnati?

Just curious how old/new these knives are. On ebay it is claimed for a few years in the mid-90's which could work with the 12-13 years ownership if bought new.

Well, the eBay knife went for $158 and change. Somebody wanted that one pretty badly.

Wow, I stopped bidding far before that final figure. Wow.

US $158.05 + Shipping

That's what a little advertising on Bladeforums will do. ;)

I prefer the silent approach until the knife is sold. :D

I ain't complainin' though. This thread called my attention to n2s's blade.

heh, that's how i scored the first 29 machaxs, and 19 magnum camps :D :p

just kidding :)

from the looks of the grind marks, it's possible that particular machax was handground by ethan himself. i've never seen anything like it, ever. the one machax i have that looks like that, has a similar but different hollow kind of grind to it. bizarre all these variations. oh well.

alright, who has an original early years magnum camp? or campanion?

or a becker extreme for $99 in mint condition with a proper two bevel edge?

someday!
