Hey all,

I actually had this same dilemma a few weeks back. I had already pretty much resolved to getting the BK11 when the Izula came to my attention. Of course ended up w/ both in short order.

I've had the BK11 for a few weeks and found it to be a pretty good little knife. It will definetly do the jobs a neck knife is intended to do. My complaints are twofold. First the factory edge on the BK 11 was a little rough for my taste. It would zip right through media like cardboard but wasn't much of cutter when it came to cordage or meat. A few minutes w/ my sharpmaker remedied this problem.

IMO the biggest detractor from the BK11 is the handle. I have what I consider to be medium sized hands w/ long fingers...I found the unwrapped handle to be downright uncomfortable and just a bit to short. Cordwrapping prevented the skeleton handle from "biting" quite so much...but I still feel as thought he grip is just a bit short for comfort.

If your going to buy a couple of beckers as emergencey stash knives you won't be using often then I say go for it. The price point on these knives is great and the handle for occasional use won't be an issue.....but this wouldn't be my first choice for an edc.

NOW....the Izula!

This knife is impressive right out of the box. From just looking at the internet and size comparison pics w/ the BK11 I was concerned this knife was going to be too small for me. The second I took it out of the box this concern was completely eliminated. The Handle is the same size as the BK11 but the rounded design makes it feel like a whole different class of knife....it's very comfortable in any grip and even accomodates my pinky.

The fit and finish on the Izula is excellent and it comes w/ a well polished scary sharp edge right out of the box. The handle to blade ratio is perfect small knife chores like food prep and caping. I also feel the blade shape on the Izula is a little more practical for a knife this size. In the past I've used such knifes in the field to remove splinters, drain blisters and other minor "surgical" tasks, the more defined point of the Izula really lends itself to this sort of work.

I chose to cordwrap my Izula...this really fills out the grip and makes it even more comfortable it also gives you a yard or so of 550 cord to use for emergency situations. I opted not to gut the paracord that way I can use the five strands of "gut" for additional cordage.

So my verdict is this...The Izula is a superior knife to the BK11. If your looking for an EDC necker than spend the extra $20 on the Izula. On the other hand if you just want a cheap small knife to throw in an E&E or survival kit (or kits) then maybe the BK11's pricetag could be an advantage.

Thanks for your comparison and review Lobo.

Like I said, I'll probably get both eventually, but I ended up with the Necker first. I handled one at a gunshow last week. Yes the handle is a bit small for my taste, but still useable. It feels decent in my hand. The main reason why I bought it first was because one, it was cheaper (broke college kid), and because I liked the sheath carry options better than the Izula. Since I want to EDC this blade (on the neck, and on the belt) and the Necker's sheath with the TDI clip seems like it would fit better on a belt than the options with the Izula.

I like the Izula even more than I thought I would. :)

The hole at the butt slips onto my little finger so the knife can hang down between cutting when I'm setting up the next item, and curls right up into my hand for a comfortable grip. And my hand is pretty big.

Perfect personal utility carry, makes a nice pocket fixed blade as well as a necker.
