I'm looking for Becker bk11 knife and sheath modifications geared towards wilderness survival.

Sheath: I have heard of ppl using an using a bicycle innertube wrapped around the necker kydex sheath to hold items, but i'm looking for a more robust solution. A cordura sheath cover with a pocket perhaps? Has anyone made or know of a company that could make this?

The knife: I've pretty much fit everything I can into the cutouts in the handle. I'm considering filing a set of thumb notches into the spine for better control. What is everyones thoughts on a good edge angle for this knife to be used in a survival situation. Combination perhaps?

Heres where I'm at so far, but i still need room for a bit of tin foil, some duct tape and possibly a small sharpener.

thats pretty elaborite, looks good though, Id's sugest just getting some material you self and making it, but im sure someone will be along soon to point you in the direction of a maker for what your looking for.

very nice set up... that is a great idea.....

i had to send my bk-11 out, to get a new kydex sheath made for it.... the one that it came with was horrible, i had to wrestle with it to get the knife out.....:D

I like the knife alot, I just don't like the factory coating. BTW nice pics.

I just ordered a Necker myself.

What I've been doing is using GI web-belt pouches on my sheaths. For instance, my Kydex sheath for my Ka-Bar has a 1st-aid/compass pouch jury-rigged to the front, with a multi-tool, magnesium block, whiste/compass/thermometer, diamond stone and AAA LED flashlight stuffed inside. Maybe a single pistol clip pouch would fit on a Necker sheath?

Tiros..great job!~!!! I'm liking that rig.

Just got my Necker in the mail a few days ago. Love it already!!

For a micro-mini-PSK, here is a thought I am having.
There are the 3 "screw holes" , 2 rear one front.
I was wondering if someone hollowed out some wooden scales, and used easy to remove screws, could they have a nice hollow area stoarge area inside the scales for some modest stuff like a few water proof matches, etc?

I was even thinking the same thing for any of the becker knives since the scales are easily removeable.

Again, Tiros, great thinking. I love the home-spun ideas.

Here's a Becker Necker that's.......well no longer a necker. :D It's a belt knife now.

Gee, guys, thanks a lot for makin' me chomp at the bit waitin' for mine to arrive. You bastids.

Scott done the micarta handle mod to three of my neckers and it made a good knife into a totally useful knife. The difference is like night and day in the use and feel of the knife. Now I got to see if he will make me a leather sheath !

You suck, SkunkWerx.

Hopefully, I'll have mine by the end of the week... I got a couple pages of sketches of handle ideas already, heh.

Don't mean to hijack the thread or anything but how do you guys cord wrap the handle? Any sites or explanation would help.

Hmm, wood or cord. I may carve up a set of woodies for my other bk11 (yes I have 2 and they are glorious:) ). If you hollow them out you can fit more in the handle and the handles can be shaved for tinder in an emergency. The fasteners used would be my only concern as I wanna keep this project as minimalistic as possible so they would have to open with something thats already in the kit. any ideas? no wingnuts please:D

I don't mind the bottle opener cutout so much, it serves as a nifty slot to house the finishing knot on your handle wrap. I like the other cutouts for obvious reasons (pics).

These are fast becoming my favorite survival knives. After a practice/trial day of chopping, whittling, drilling, and light batoning (1 bow drill set, 4 spears, a good number of shelter poles and a feeble attempt at a spoon) it was still very sharp, a little stropping and it was back to hair popping sharp. No signs of coating wear either.

I used the single final wrap only (no underwrapping)
