So I posted this on the general discussion forum, and granted I think I will get a slightly slanted view here, but I think that's ok. :)

I'm looking for a necker. Thought I would ask for opinions on these two one against the other.

I have gone back and forth over the last few days.

Becker +
Larger blade
Better cost

Becker -
Some say too much blade for the handle
Odd handle for para wrapping
How comfie is the wire breaker on the palm of your hand??

RAT+
Company gets AWESOME reviews
Gets the general nod from most

RAT-
Slightly more expensive
Slightly smaller blade (but this could be a plus for "concealed" carry)
I wish the sheath had 4 holes like the Becker, not just two on one side and a "slot" on the other.

My main reason for one of these knives is to carry it on the shoulder strap of my field pack or on the belt of my pants as a back up blade.

I'm going to post the same post on the RAT page. But I do want to hear the opinions of the fans!

like most of us knifenuts you will get both,I've had my BK11 for five years I like hanging it around my neck for carry with no paracord wrap its been a good blade, and has done alot of work. RAT IZULA the all around comfort of this knife is some thing to be held,it does stay sharp longer it rides good in the front pocket if you paracord wrap it,it's even more comfortable.now I do own six BECKERS I love the function of them.in this case between BK11 & IZULA I would pick the izula. but I say get them both one for the neck and one for the pocket.

the wire breaker on the becker is in a "neutral area" your hands rarely grab here for normal tasks, plus there are scales being produced and will be available soon I hear...but I hear nothing but good about the rat so... judgment call.

If you get a BK7 or BK9, don't they come with a smaller (ie: necker size) knife as well?
I'm pretty sure that they do.

They do come with a smaller knife, the BK13 I think. It is 5.25" overall, maybe 2" cutting surface. I wouldn't buy the BK7 or 9 for that reason. I think those knives are great, though the bk13 isn't all that impressive, though it is nice that it comes with the others.

I have a bias towards the Izula since I have a RC4 and love it and really like the Pros to having a RAT knife. I think the Becker Knecker is good too, especially for the price. Can't go wrong with either really, just preference and cashflow.

Yes you do, and don't get me wrong, it's nice and it's a great little extra. But an Izula is better.

For one thing the BK13 handle is a bit sharp. The edges arn't radiused. A paracord wrap might fix that...

I know which one I'm getting, Nothing against Rat Cutlery "I Like there Knive's" but I'm getting the BK11 Necker "You Cant Beat The Price & Quality" I Think I'll buy two there that Good of a Deal, And I'll sure nuff use a Para-Cord Wrap on the Handle, With the BK11 Design & Shape It Is the Perfect PSK Neck Knife, I cant wait to get the BK11'S, The first thing Im going to do Is whittle down a Green Willow on the River and put one to the Test as a Spear Head lashed with Para-Cord on a Green Willow Sapling, Them I'm going to search the River Bank's for a Very Large Carp within range "And You Know The Rest Of The Story !

This Picture Is from this Web-Site, And here's the Link for a Great Deal,

I like the necker a lot but LOVE the Izula. You cant beat the quality at the price for BKs,

But you cant beat RATS quality, price, and warranty.

Have both, love both.

Izula - Came sharper, is more compact, has more of a point to the blade.

BK11 - Bigger, thicker, and feels a little stronger.

I'm not going to knock either because both are great. I use my BK11 for more of a utility roll and the Izula as more of a outdoors/finer work/skinning kind of roll.

Get both and be done with it!!!

Nice looking pair of Neckers rmc85, I like how you did the Para-Cord wrap's Great Job, I'll work on my Rat Cutlery collection latter, Right now I'm getting the different Beckers "While the Getting's Good" I've got several Custom PSK Necker's allready that I really like I just figured I'd give the production Knive's a try and Ka-Bar has alway's been one of my Favorite Knife Company's and now with the Becker Ka-Bar Knive's I got the BK7 I'll be getting the BK11's and when the New USA Made BK13's come out I'll be adding them to my Small Knife Collection, But I'll deffinatly be getting the Rat Izula In the Future, Thank's for sharing the picture,

I don't think I've even gotten to handle an Izula yet but they look great and based on the quality of my RC4 I've no doubt that they are great.

Since my nephew just got custody of my BK11, I ordered a new one. I've been very happy with the performance at multiple tasks like battoning and debarking hiking sticks.

i love the becker necker but you can not beat the RAT warranty! i literraly just purchsed an OD izula and it is going to make a great combo with my rc-4!

ive never personally handled an izula, though i must say im very interested in owning one.but i do love my bk-11,it goes everywhere i go.

The RC4 is great and will go very well with those knives.

On a side note, how do you break wire with the becker necker? I am a little confused on that bit.

The cut out section on the rear of the knife is not for wire breaking.

It is for bottle top opening,,,,, a real dumb idea for a neck knife,,,, and it does get in the way for my handling uses.

What percent of bottle tops are not twist off?

BTW I have three BK&T neckers (one is the laminated Hitachi White steel).

I am presently working on making an insert of aluminum or hardwood and with epoxy filling in the sharp edged opening.

Regards,
FK
