Becker or not a Becker, that is the question!

I won a Junglas in a chopping contest using a BK-9. That's how it's done.
Or I guess you could win a BK-9 in a contest using a Junglas. Po-TA-toes, po-tah-toes.

As usual, Guyon nailed it like a straight board.

How do they compare? Similar, different? How/when do you use each?

The Junglas has more weight, and length to it , so it's naturally a better chopper. But, that's where the geometry of the 9 shows its glory. On average, the Junglas only has about a .125" to .25" bite advantage over the 9, which isn't that much of an advantage over the 9 at all when comparing size, and weight. The Junglas is noticeably heavier. One thing about the Junglas, though, the sheath is incredibly good for a production knife. But, that is true for all ESEEs.

As far as ergos go... they both have great handles. The Junglas handles are the best ESEE has to offer, imho. But, also imho you can't beat Becker handles. ESEE's Junglas are a close second to the most comfortable I've ever handled.

To sum it up... both are excellent knives. The 9 is far more versatile for the average knife user, has less weight, and a smaller size all around.

My wife ordered a knife for a late Christmas present,
But she won't tell me if she ordered a junglas or a 9.
And not knowing is bugging the piss out of me.

I should be ashamed of what I'm going to say...

Does your household share a single computer? Does your wife have her own amazon account or is it a shared account? Does she log out of it every single time? If you go to amazon and it's her account, do you browse through the various knives to see if the page displays a little notice of the date of the last order made to a particular item?

She either bought it from smokey moutain or tomars and she's got me blocked out of everything that could give it away:(
But it's all good, both knives are awesome and I know I'm getting one of them by next Friday;)

Then your wife knows her (and your) blades, and is highly intelligent to boot.

You got lucky on that one.

Yes, yes, you are a lucky man, whichever way it shakes out.
My wife could give a rats about knives, and it boggles her mind that I would want to buy more...
It's not like she's a shoe-hoarder or anything like that, in fact, she's just the opposite...she's so pragmatic and practical that she doesn't see the need or usefulness of these things.
"Don't you already have a big knife?!?"
Oh well, she tolerates my little idiosyncrasies, (to a point), and I love her.

Thanks Snakebreaker and CM_Rick! I have a bk9 and have been thinking of getting a junglas. I think I will eventhough they are similar. They are both just awesome knives and I like awesome knives.

Cool. I really like them both, and frequently have a hard time choosing which to carry between the two. They are both bowie style knives, but the Junglas has a tad more of a machete character to it, so you know what to expect.

I have both. I do prefer the BK-9. I have medium hands and the Jungles handle is a little large for my tastes. Cool knife tho and I don't think you will be disappointed with either!

Congrats on a cool wife! Any wife who buys either Becker's or ESEE's is a keeper.

She's a great wife and I'm a terrible person cuz I tricked her
Into telling she got me a junglas:)

Your going to love it! Its an absolute chopping machine and at least for me, feels like a dream in the hand.

When chocking down on the handle for the deepest bite, it feels more comfortable than any other handle I've held in that position.

The Junglas is a great knife. Enjoy it, but beware. I got mine about a year ago. It was my first ESEE. Shortly thereafter I bought an ESEE 6 and a BK2 (my first BK). It started an avalanche. ;-)

Die hard ESEE fans and beckerheads do seem like distinctly different crowds, but I think most can agree on the positive qualities of both brands. If I knew what a Bk12 was a year ago, I'm not sure if I'd have purchased an ESEE 6.
