Becker Patrol Machete photo

Camillus has no photo available on their site yet of the new Patrol Machete and I think some people may have it confused with another Becker knife so here's a photo. Awesome machete!

Looks like heck of an awesome machete with just the right forward curve!
Jeff, would you mind sharing with us your field experience with it?
Thanks in advance.

Jeff,
What kind of sheath material does it come with? In the picture it looks like some type of canvas or cordura nylon. Does it have a hard liner of some sort? Thanks.

I'd like to know how it performs on heavier and larger diameter vegetaion. I don't do too much brush clearing, but it looks like it may be good medium chopper. I'd love an excuse to get one!

Speaking for myself, not Jeff.
This is one hell of an awsome chopper. I did a mini-review in the Camillus forum but this thing just wants to chop and chop and chop. Heavy vegitation is NO problemo with this baby.
The sheath is a kind of nylon type of material and sucks as a sheath but it does an ok job of covering the blade while being transported. I think Jeff hates sheaths for machetes anyway.
This is one blade that I will alway have with me on trips to the outdoors....thats a PERIOD!

Muzzleup,
Is there a hard liner in that nylon sheath?
If not then there is a definite danger in the blade cutting thru the sheath.

Do you think this blade will fit into one of the hard plastic GI sheaths used with the Ontario machetes? Thanks.

As much as I don't use a sheath for a machete, this one is pretty nice as far as machetes go. There is some type of liner material inside but I don't know what it is. It has lashing points for tying it on to a pack, and it's also designed to slip snugly into one of the side pockets on the Becker Patrol Pack. I have no complaints, but then again I'm not a machete sheath fan

Alex,
The sheath is plastic lined PROPEX nylon. The lining is actually attached to the PROPEX, like a coating....its not a loose insert. Also, the welt features a hard "cut strip" sewn into it, to keep the edge from cutting the stitching. The Belt loop is large enough to go over a GI pistol belt,a nd it also has ALICE CLIP attachment points on the back.

As discussed in other threads, we looked at this product, and decided to go with a nylon sheath instead of a kydex arrangement like the rest of the BK&T's. The PARTOL MACHETE has a 14" blade and the cost of a kydex sheath for such a large blade would have significantly driven the price up. The tooling alone would have been VERY expensive, and we really wanted to keep this BK&T affordable. We fell we have provide great performance for the dollar. We hope you feel the same

As Jeff pointed out, it's actually a VERY good sheath, for a machete. Beats either thin cotton or nylon any day of the week. The only complaint I have is, why don't more knife makers make sheaths that are ambidexterous? All it would take is squaring the bottom of the sheath off, instead of rounding. Maybe lefties are a small proportion of the overall knife-buying public, but we deserve good sheaths, too. :~} I always look for a knife with an ambi sheath. If there are two knives that are basically the same in all other areas, but one has an ambi sheath, that's the one I'll buy. Either that, or try to find an aftermarket ambi sheath that I can afford. Besides, to me, a symmetrical sheath looks better, anyway.

backpacker,
Suggested retail on the PATROL MACHETE is $99.95. IF you stop by our website, www.camillusknives.com , and go to our LINKS page, you will find several online dealers that carry the PM. I believe that you will find the PM availible on the 'net at considerable savings under retail.

BTW, the PM is availible now.

Thanks for the interest!

I got mine a couple weeks ago and put it to work clearing brush. I left it here with a friend on the hotshot crew to use while I was gone.... almost had to pry it out of his hands to get it back!

We have a lot of spiney hawthorn here and it is hell... like rosebushes with attitude. The standard tools they carry don't work well for clearing these skinny but painful bushes but the Becker machete worked great he said. They do carry machetes some times but mostly the bigger ones get in the way. This one is sized just right for the fire packs they carry.

I wanted to use it myself for a few days then I think I'll give it to him. After the fireseason is over in about 5 months we will have a damn good field report on it.

For now... It is nicely balanced, holds a great edge and goes through small trees and brush with ease. I like it.

This is the best machete I've ever owned. Hands down.
I've been using it to clear the woody brush around the house and those naughty little Spring saplings (many with 1-2" trunks) that are popping up along the fenceline in my yard and this tool has tackled these jobs easily. It handles like a true champ, not unweildy, but lightning fast in the hand. It chops with authority.

Just for fun, I decided to prune the azaleas into a flat-top using the PM and the bushes all have nice, neat flat tops now. A testament to how Gawd awful sharp this blade is.
IMO, it was well worth the wait. I'll be retiring my other machetes now.

It's refreshing to see a factory blade that has good cutting efficiency out of the box. I'm not talking about just being sharp. There's tons of knives that come shaving sharp but have no cutting efficiency. Wilderness blades,in my opinion, should have this quality.

Ok, ok, guys. Stop torturing me. I just ordered one. I'm starting to lose count of how many Beckers I have...

Jeff, that's the best pic I've seen of the machete.

Can Idaho join the South for this uprising? I think Montana, Wyoming and Utah might join in as well.

Wow. This looks like a superb machete. May have to replace the old no-name machete (it is just marked "Colombia" and look exactly like the US issue -- has held up well too), which will be relegated to truck duty.
