Becker vs ESEE

Don't give up hope on the folder! You know we all want one ;)

As for the Machax.. I really hope I can wait for this to come out. Been wanting one ever since I first saw one in person. A great blade.

LOL! No, I'm not giving up at all. Toooj likes it, and we're waiting on word from "other sources.":D

For those who don't know what we're talking about, it's this one that I designed to be kind of a folding BK-2, but a little smaller, of course. This was just a concept rough, so it doesn't show a grind.

As for the Machax, it's coming, but I don't have a date. I would like to have one, too.

BTW, rockspyder, Jeff Randall did a review in Tactical Knives of the BK-2 and he gave it great marks.
Doc

OK, OKAYYYY.... I'll leave it on my wish-list. ;) :D

I guess it is off-topic for this, but what I wish Becker would produce again is the one that was a slightly recurved blade. Not the Machaxe, though. It was pointier than that.

If you're thinking of the Brute, a lot of people would like to see that one come back but, unfortunately, that's not going to happen. The Brute is dead.

I think it WAS the Brute. Any particular reason that it is dead? I mean, the way you state it is so final.

Ethan stated the Brute (BK1) was a poor seller from last time we talked...
that is funny B/C it is my favorite and only BK I own .
Because every other thread about Beckers the Brute is always Brought up with the same questions.. and Ethan said the Brute is Dead...

You're absolutely right, Tony, but there's even a little more to it.

Becker is bringing out some new knives in the near future, but the Brute won't be one of them, despite a lot of people asking about them. Why? When it was brought up, KA-BAR decided that there were just way too many choppers on the market (including their own), and the Brute would, once again, not be a big enough seller to warrant production. Actually, in light of the upcoming re-release of the Machax and other new Beckers, it was probably a prudent business decision.

I'd say cherish the Brute you have now, because it won't be reproduced in the foreseeable future.

My Brute is awesome...I bought it because I missed out on the older BlackJack Mambas (I've since found one of those, as well!). It's one of my few "older" knives I kept since I entered my higher end and custom phase. To think, I almost gave it away back in 2001...

I think I need to pull it out and fondle it a bit....

The Brute is awesome. To my mind it's one of the best in its class ever produced. Unfortunately it was, as TTD said, never a huge seller. In today's business climate, and given the number of choppers on the market, it just didn't make the cut, so to speak.

Those people who actually have a Brute love 'em. Everyone else... sorry, but they're not coming back.

I do like the looks of the Junglas, though. If it only had the Becker grips...

with a blade that size the junglas' handle shape is better than the bk9 from my experience. the bk9 feels like a large knife whereas the junglas feels like a machete - very fast and nimble in the hand.

jvarn81 - i have both the bk-2 and rc-5 and i prefer the bk-2's handle shape. it fits my hand better. the rc-5's micarta handles with the thickness feels like i'm holding a brick. i'll either sand it to round off the corners more or sell it.

For larger knives, Becker and ESEE are the only I would really consider. ESEE has the awesome warranty, and Becker's knives offer excellent value. I hate seeing 1095 blades costing ridiculous prices.

Well, you don't get ridiculous blades with ESEE or Becker, just really good blades at really good prices.

I simply don't understand some of the other makers pricing, but that's just me.:D

I love the Becker grips — they fit my hand like no other.

And there's the rub - you love the shape and feel of the grivory, I want to love the Beckers, but the grivory scales don't fit my hand - they're just a bit small, so I sold/traded off my Beckers and started buying ESEE blades. The ESEE6 fits like a glove, and the Junglas feels pretty close to perfect as well.
eagerly anticipating the BK-14 release, though!
Your folder is interesting, too - looking forward to having a chance to handle one of those.

Aye, and there's the rub, indeed. Not everyone has the same size hands, or likes the exact same shape. The Becker grips fit my hand perfectly, as though they were molded just for me. Someone else, with much larger hands, might feel they were too small.

I haven't tried the ESEE 6 or the Junglas (I can't afford them right now), so I can't comment of them.

I'm waiting for the BK-14, too, and hoping I can afford one when they come out.

There are a lot of people who are looking forward to handling the Becker folder... including me.:D We're waiting for THE WORD on that one. Even if it does get approval from Ethan, it can take awhile to move through prototyping and into production. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I really, really want one.

I was out on saturday cutting some shooting lanes with my BK9. I love the handle shape, however, grivory seems too slippy, gonna have to get the micarta.......prettier too.....:thumbup: BK2 is on my list, and its funny I showed a picture of the BK2 to my younger brother and now he wants one too.:D
