BeckerHead #325 - "Brutey"

Very nice work on all counts. Clean and well executed. About the only thing I'm curious about is why you left so much pommel showing with the scales. Nice work!

I might trim the pommel, undecided yet. I did the handle area thinking of just fitting it with regular becker scales then decided to go with the burl. Once arrived, it was a bit short so I decided to do a "twist" at the end, not bothering to cover the lanyard hole and just going around it. But like I said, I might trim that area later.

Great steel w/ proper HT. If your ever at Ethan's and get board............ I will more than happily take a costume HT 9 blank :D :D

Tackett sure knows how to do the HT. I smacked concrete full swing several times and the edge had the smallest, barely seen nicks afterwards. I am truly impressed with the HT after this accidental "destruction" testing :D

This is awesome! The Patina really set it off.
I would love to see a sheath tutorial, the lacing is just...Just DAMN.

Wow...

Awesome stuff! The blade, the handles, the sheath - man, that's quite a looker! Excellent job all around.

Wow. That turned out awesome! At first I thought the sheath looked a little off - but with your later embellishments, it's just perfect.
Great job!

Really fantastic work, ZN.

On the acid areas, did you neutralize the acid w/ a baking soda solution? That is one of the recommended treatments of vinegarooned leather.

"Vinegaroon" is an "iron left in vinegar for a couple of weeks" solution that does the same thing - chemically changes the color of the leather. You acid worked like vinegaroon. Vinegaroon solutions do not dye the leather but cause a chemical reaction in which the leather turns black all the way through when you soak it in the solution. Get a scratch in the leather and no tan shows in the scratch.

It's also recommended that vinegarooned leather be treated with neatsfoot oil after neutralizing the acid solution as the acids will cause the leather to dry and crack sooner.

That is a beautiful knife and sheath. You put a lot of time and heart into making them and it shows. Well done.
