Beckerhead Beverage Beakers and Barrels

The Griptions are hard to get ahold of, at least in new condition with all the parts.
Some have popped up on the 'bay, but they were used, and Derek said one was missing an O-ring.
Not long before I started looking, a brand new one sold for a steal, but that's been a while ago now.
I've gone probably 30 pages deep on Google looking and calling places but no go. Hope springs eternal.
If anyone runs across a cache of them, you know where to find me.

I didn't know that's what it was called, but I have one, purchased on closeout from Sports Authority (I think) for less than $10, IIRC. The spring on mine seems weak. I have this one, for those whodon't know what these two guys are talking about:

i'm a big fan of those platypus platy bottles...at just over an oz each, i carry several. if i'm carrying 2 liters of water for example, i'll carry two platy bottles with a liter of water each (i can put the load exactly where i want it in the backpack and insurance for accidental puncture or leak).

side note: the untreated, tannin-tinted lake water is on the right and crystal clear water on the left is due to chlorine tablets.

as part of my psk, i always carry some kind of a water container with me at all times (except when sleeping) and what i carried for awhile was this nalgene flask...that's water by the way but i always get a kick out of people staring at me in the parking lot when they think i'm taking a sip of booze at 8 am :D

hikingmano gave me an rei gift card last year and i used it to buy this 1 liter soft bottle.

...so that's what i've been using as my always-with-me-water-container now though.

It's important to have some clean water stored in the house or at the retreat... but repurposed 2-liters and gallon jugs take up a lot of space if you have more than a few. Several cases of bottled water from the store gets costly real fast... in my opinion you're better off buying beer.

We picked up two 15-gallon carboys like this off craigslist for about $10 IIRC. I filled ours from the garden hose on the deck. Basically anyone can tip them about 30 degrees and "roll" them wherever you need to go... at least on the level. Stairs may be problematic ;)

30 gallons is a pretty good hedge against a broken/frozen pipe, plumbing troubles that can't be fixed for a couple days, contaminated water from a nearby spill, etc. The reason I choose 15's is that they're relatively easy to move around and tip to pour (roughly 130# full). 55's are very bulky and weigh around 490# full... that's fine for outside (collecting rainwater for your garden, etc) but not so great for tucking away in a closet.

(be sure to get ones that have only been used for food items, come with a sturdy handle on top and have bungs that fit securely. Rotate the water out from time to time)

ETA: if you have enough warning that water troubles are coming, the first thing to do is fill up the bath tub and all but one sink (leave one empty for washing). This will get stale and gross pretty quick, but it's still suitable for washing, flushing the commode, etc. That way you can save your "bottled" water for cooking and drinking.

Me and Murph's favorite drinking vessels.

I keep meaning to post my favorite vessels here, good to see I'm already part of the thread though.

Here's one that I got in an estate sale. Holds almost a 6 half gallon.

Dad gave me this mug from his Mom's trip to Germany to visit his Dad sometime in the 50's. He said she got it from a monk, pretty sweet sipper.

I used to drink and you guys make it look fun but I get a little crazy and hunt deer in the nude.. It will 3 years this July since I touched the crazy sauce.

....that....seems like a good plan. Did you try to eat that deer raw?
