Wow, I don't really know whatt to say that wasn't already said by 3 other people, so I'll make it short. Congrats Mrs. snakedoc, now go start a family.

Snakedoc, I was told there is no happier time in you life than when your wife wants a child. My advice is don't try too hard at first, savor the "trying" experience, and then do your best. I made the mistake of being too fast to deliver and I missed out. Don't miss out like I did(with a honeymoon baby).

Guys, I put up my contest finally. Break out your kitchen aprons.

I'm thinking about making my second contest a "flash" contest that only lasts about an hour. More details later.
 
Remember, cooking can be: Take steak, salt/pepper, grill for 4 minutes per side on medium flame, allow to rest, and serve. It doesn't HAVE to be complicated.
 
I spent a great afternoon yesterday, went to a park nearby that I didn't visit yet, although I've been living here for about a year. Found a quiet corner without too many sheep and took a branch off a willow. The BK14 is a GREAT chopper for its size if you pinch it right at the lanyard hole with thumb and index finger (I'd recommend using a lanyard, flying knives may or may not make holes in stuff, axes do too) and I cut a 1 1/2" limb off in no time. Sat down in the sun, listened to birds singing and whittled the first spoon I ever made. There will be pics as soon as I find out how to make the inside of the "bowl" part look less like a train wreck. Then I drove home with the bus, cooked some great dinner with my girlfriend and had a good night's sleep. I woke up and found that I won gold status in moose's fire contest. Thanks again, moose!

All this talk of trees and beautiful parks.... I'm so jealous... and bitter. The only wood I have found for whittling so far is used pallets! (and anything you make from those, you do NOT want to put in your mouth!)
 
Not til February 2012. Long time to go. But only three month til R&R when I get to see my beautiful wife and my beast of and infant. This kid is 4 months old and is the size of a 10 month old. He's gonna be a bohemoth.
 
Wow, that's a pretty long time. German soldiers in Afghanistan deploy for 3-6 months, tops. Hope you get home well.
