Being a stay at home parent (for the time being) I have been on my fair share of forums and all over Bladeforums. (its nice to have human interaction with ppl above 4yrs old sometimes lol) I have not come across anything even remotely close to the Becker brotherhood. Everyone on here is helpful, giving and supportive (including and especially Mr Becker). Its not enough that Becker knives are the best there is at a price point anyone can afford, but as a Becker owner you have a place to go where you can receive advice, support and friendship from their Designer and a close knit group of some classy, stand up guys who would give the shirts off their back. I will be honored from the bottom of my heart if/when I earn that Beckerhead number

Don't let these knuckle heads fool you, they'd toss you over board for a sterile BK1 :D

No, it really is an awesome group here. I feel honored to be part of it all the time.

LOL. That just shows the loyalty to these knives. I just dont see any reason in buying any other fixed blades anymore. Now I need to save up and get an 11 or 14 to go with my BK2. (I am torn between the two and have read just about every thread and poll there is..lol)

^^^What he said!:D

I know I got into Becker knives because of the guys on this forum. I just didn't know how great the knives were until I got my first. It was all gravy from there.

And for the record I'd go with the 14. More comfortable handle same great blade.

Yeah you only see this sort of commandery in Jeep owners (which we have more than a few of in our ranks as I understand)

I don't think that classy should be used around here.....but there is a great group of people here for sure!

What he said.

Fun and informative are the goals. Moose brings the fun. Bladite has the information. No one remembers me. It's a system.

some classy, stand up guys

Pure class.

You can have my number if you wish. I have likely DIS earned it. I like Becker knives but I gagged a while back on the incessant corporate mantra. Yup, there are many fine ladies and gentlmen here but a manufacturers site is also there to sell knives, which is perfectly fine. But it was being over done a while back and the sheep were just standing in line to repeat whatever silly trend was in vogue. ''Hey, let's all strip the coating off our knives so that they can rust easier and be more maintenance. Ya, cool idea bro.'' I wish all here well but I cast my net a little wider these days. Long live Becker knives and its brotherhood if it meets your needs. But I can't do robotic fanboi.

Wow nice downer on a good post, I was taught if I had nothing nice to say, don't say anything. You should give your number up if you dislike us sheep. What a jerk.

Hey Upnorth.....

Glad to see you dropped by......I really wish you would get over your snit.....Yes, I want to sell knives and yes i am delighted that my blades have a following what designer would not......You have to admit that i talk with fondness about a big bunch of other peoples blades.......I WANT to talk about other blades......I want to see other stuff......

I am delighted when Becker owners want to make their blades their own by modifying them to suit, hell, that is how I ended up in the knife biz......It ain't for everybody......I wish you would spend more time with us.....You added something good here......

If you get a chance give a call at 423 295 2500.....lWe should talk....

On my way way to TN this week to get my Becker robot annual tune-up.

Seriously, I've not found anywhere on the net like the Becker subforum.

It was a really interesting thing to watch it turn into the above. At first it was slow (at least when I first joined, in the days of maybe 5 people viewing the forum) but it has since grown to be my home on the internet. We have differences, and arguments, and sometimes things get a little heated, but ultimately we are all pretty well here for the same reason; to have fun. I was on EDCForums for about 2+ years before I found this place, and had only posted maybe around 300+ times. Here though, well, I have found a lot more to talk about, and a lot more people to talk about it with. (No disrespect to EDCForums, I think John is a fantastic guy and runs a tight ship, I just didn't find as many like minded individuals there as I do here.)

Heck, when the owner of the company hangs around to try and get you to actively discuss the product and will engage you on a personal level, even when you are throwing a tizzy, that is a pretty cool place.

If you would care to point out which thread in particular you are referring to, we might be able to see just whom it was that you were getting this info from. Personally, I strip the newer coated blades (and just the blade only) because that stuff is pretty darn grippy. Then I give it a dunk in PCB etchant to patina it until it develops it's own through use. The idea is to have a knife that will work well without an issue with rust. The goal being that I don't have to do more maintenance, and don't have a really, really grippy texture making cutting tasks more difficult.

A lot of the threads these days have a lot more posts from newer people than older people, and I think the majority of us go through a phase where we want to make our knives look "cool". I have done it before. Moose has. Almost everyone that has been here for quite some time has, although we tend to "grow" out of that phase and move on to other things. If you are hearing a bunch of people say the same thing, maybe it is because of the newer folks being more vocal than the older ones? As far as fanboyism, well, that is a matter of opinion. Some people just plain like Becker knives. Obviously you did as you put the time in to get a number. If someone defends those views that doesn't make them a fanboy so much as just someone that knows what they like. Do Becker knives outperform every other knife ever made? No, and I will be the first to admit that there are certain designs and features that do not work for me. There are models that I can't stand, but that doesn't mean I can't see the utility in them or admit that they are great tools simply because I dislike them. However none of that is a good reason to come in here and slander people.

Ok, for the record, this won't turn into a bash fest. Not gonna happen, so, if you got an issue with what Upnorth posted, then feel free to discuss it, but in a civil manner.

Second, what UN is saying, is that we used to post up more threads about knives getting used. Modding is fine, but I've never done it for looks, its all about function. I also love to see the work that goes into making these knives really beautiful.

Used, haggard and roughed up knives are just as beautiful to me, as well.

Modding is how Ethan got started, and, its how alot of makers got started. BKT knives are ready to go outta the box, or can be changed completely, kind of like a blank slate that works.

I feel that UN sees more "marketing" here, that knife use and discussion, and that is his right. He's allowed to see what he wants, and vocalize about it. That's what this place is about, and we will not subdue anyone's opinion.

Upnorth is one of the original Beckerheads, he earned his number, just as everyone else did, but his posts and threads, involved dead animals, woodland skills, knife use, and dirty boot. He doesn't see much of that anymore, nor do I, but there is some of it still going on.

Sometimes, it looks like a beauty pagent in here, and there isn't a damn thing wrong with that, its Ethan's forum, and he loves a mod thread as much as a guts and blood thread. Same as I do.

That's all.

Be civil, be polite, and be professional, if you let your emotions get outta control, then, its not any single posters fault, its your own. And if civility and honor can't be maintained, I can fix that, at least here, that is.

Hey upnorth, where did that come from? I have read your posts over the years and I never sensed any kind of discontent on your part. I also frequent this subforum (but don't post that often) and I'm unsure what 'corporate mantra' you referring to. Sure, there are a lot of Becker fans here, and I am, myself (for certain models), but what else would you expect from a brand specific subforum.

I sense that there is more involved here. If that's the case, I hope things work out for you.

Doc

Yup, it's a fun place to hang out for sure. The flavor changes from time to time, but that's part of what makes it interesting.

UN, sorry you feel that way man. I've always enjoyed your posts and input.
