No, this is not a page started to see who is better. I was curious as to why there are so many Rat packs and so few beckerheads?? Seriously, its like Leonidas vs. Xerxes on bladeforums. (That was merely to represent the actual numbers in a exaggerated way, there is no reason why Rat packs and Beckerheads can't co-exist) I know most of us won't say anything otherwise in anything but a joking matter, but I pointed it out just in case. In fact, many people have both beckerhead and Rat pack #... I am relatively new to bladeforums, so fill me in. Did the beckerheads sign ups just start? Have the Rat packs been around a while? Why else for the huge difference in numbers? thanks-Josh.

Mainly because they have been around for about a year already and Beckerhead has been around for 2-3 months. I am both.

Its basically because people just don't like Beckers but they love ESEEs. And so when someone throws away their Becker, goes out and buys an ESEE, he realizes how much he loves knives and then decides to get a BF account and become part of the RAT pack.

Just joshing ya! Haha. Its funny because that's your name!

I kinda want you to get an infraction, that would be nice.

might be because the rules for becoming a Beckerhead are a little stricker than for the Rat Pack

They weren't called Beckerheads, but when they were under the Camillus roof, some years ago, they had a strong-enough following on these boards. Just been around for a long time and the new has worn off. Also they didn't have the level of company-participation on these boards that the RAT guys do, even back in the day. Spyderco, Busse, Buck and Himalayan Imports all make fantastic stuff, but the reason their forums dwarf almost all of the other manufacturer's in terms of participation is, I believe, more a reflection of the enthusiasm that the companies show for participating in the discussions here than anything else.

We used to call the ichthyologists we worked with fish heads.

ditto on both. i'll also add that a rat pack # was required to enter the giveaways so a lot of people just signed up to get freebies (there were instances where the same person had multiple rat pack #s).

Beckerheads and Ratpacks are nothing.

to be really cool, one must be a part of the BC WRECKING CREW!

Just an observation I made, the couple of times I checked the new threads for the whole forum the Becker group seems to have more post through out the day then most. I guess there is a way to check this and it would be interesting to find out if as a smaller group we our more active in general...

i bet if we had more free stuff, he'd have more "members"...

we're really interested in participation. what's the point of an exclusive member offer if the person getting it is ONLY there for the offer?

it's about community! you're here, because you want to be! you get a number branded on your ass for life because ... we're like that ;)

Rat pack has been around for a couple of years.
Beckerheads have been formally recognized for a couple of months.
There are a lot of Beckerheads who are also members of the RAT pack.

The thing is, ESEE and BKT are close friends, both here and in real life. Beckerheads are newer, but we are getting started strong. I didn't figure we would get 50 Beckerheads within the first 6 months, now, I know we'll have a 100 in the first 6 months. The best thing is that Ethan is really, really happy and proud of what we have done here, and is just tickled to see a community come about because of his knives.

PS, just a warning, if this thread turns ugly, I'll lock it fast, so, jesting and joking is fun, but keep it fun. Thanks guys.

I like the requirements and hope they don't lighten up. I like to be able to look at the list of members and be like, "oh, yeah. I know him/her and their posts." as oppose to "who the hell is that? I've never heard anything from them."
