Beckerheads with disabilities?

As you most likely know from my username, I am technically "disabled". But I make due, and still get into the woods all the time. I have several pieces of "gear" that help me do this. My question is this; If you are a beckerhead with some form of a disability, what helps you get out there? Last year I saw a braille compass (not joking) and a audio GPS for hiking!

I use my jon-boat.

A heavy-duty off road wheel-chair. It has mountain bike tires on it.

I also use crutches with baby boots on the ends, so I dont get stuck in the mud.

What helps you get-r-done?

Brother, this has got to be the best post i have ever read here, on BFC.

The only thing I can say is, you are one badass hombre. Looks like you got your stuff together.

I dont have any disabilities, other than being mental. :D I do have some stuff wrong with, asthma, torn ACL, diabetes, screwed up rotator cuff, stuff like that, but its managed with ease.

How'd you lose the leg, if you dont mind me askin'.

I tell people all sorts of cool lies, about how I lost it...Jumping trains, saving babies, croc hunting etc. etc. But the truth is good old boring bone cancer. i have a prosthesis, and used one for 15 years, but a couple years ago I formed blood clots in my stump, and they wont let me wear it anymore.

Here is a pic of me hill climbing last weekend in southern Ohio, That is (member; Panzer Troop) sliding down in the forground, and me at the top, on my modified crutches just starting down.

Thanks guys.

Way to keep getting it done Josh, serious ingenuity with the boots on the crutches and bicycle floatation tires, just awesome.

I don't have a disability, but wow very cool man.

Major props to you for not letting something like that stop you from doing what you enjoy. Very inspiring to me to see that -- makes me think, "Hey what was my excuse again, doesn't sound very good now."

I like the mods to your crutches & chair too. As they say, necessity the mother of invention.

You are an inspiration! My disability of lack of motivation makes me feel small now. Awesome fish too! What did it weigh?

Also, what size tires are those? I have some extra ones I could send you. Almost new and very knobby.

Great post OLJ.
The second pic, was a bushcraft vid made from that outing?
Way to get out there.

I had a buddy with the same thing; he used to tell people he lost it to a shark... that way when they would say "Oh shit, REALLY!?!" He'd reply "Heh, no, I'm just messing with you, it's cancer..." Awkward...

Anyhow, keep on keepin' on, and cut down on the neighbor's cigarette butts, not for health reasons but for our own sanity sake ;)

Almost 5 lbs, my biggest bass came from that same lake it was 7 lbs 4 oz
They are 26 x 2.95, I got a spare set, but that was really nice of you to offer!
Do you kayak Josh?

No kayak, I owned a canoe for a long time though.

Here is my channel...http://www.youtube.com/user/MrOneleggedjosh?feature=mhee

All I know is I'd love to go on a hike with you. I am sick of being the slow one. I am not exactly disabled just a bit fat.

Wow. Awesome post. Very cool. Thanks for sharing your story. Man, you are seriously bad ass.

What and awesome post!

The sheer will power you display is very inspiring.

Because of this post I am going to flip off people that park in handicapped spaces and are not handicapped at all even harder than I do now!

You are the man,

Jeremy

Ps. very jealous of that bass...lol!

Both my self and my brother, Myker, used to make prosthetic limbs. Bummer that the clots prevent you from wearing your prosthesis. Were you wearing compression socks, or did you have a silicone sleeve? I can't tell from the pics; is the amputation below the knee, or above? BK limbs were my favorite to fabricate. I would have loved to create some kind of outdoor socket, but most clients were older, so ultralights were the bulk of the orders. Keep on keeping on, man. I dig the baby boots mod. How you like the Sven saw? I have one, but haven't really given it much use yet.

No problem. If you change your mind or end up needing them they are Continental Verticals 26x2.3 (they are fat for a 2.3)

OLJ you need to strap aBK9 to your stump and use that to get around. Plus then you could split wood with a karate kick.

Saw the video you made over on BCUSA it was great. Made me laugh when the other guy tried to get down the slope and you said let's see how you do two leg or something to that affect.

Glad to see you here brother. Good to see someone talked you into coming here, haha. ;) Lotsa good people around these parts. Bone cancer is some bad stuff. That's what took my dad's life at age 48. That was back in 86.

I am way above the knee, I always wore a sock and old school waistbelt... I was pretty hard on prosthetics... I broke one skydiving, one when I fell out of a climbing tree stand, and one in a fourwheeler accident.

I like the sven, It works well for smaller firewood.

Josh is my hero and homey. We like that in Ohio

Thanks brutha!
