Here's a bunch o' pics from a hike to Jungle Habitat today. JV3, riz_aaroni, and myself schlepped around the woods for a bit, and then parked it to chop, cook, burn, chop s'more, whittle, and in my case "eat a sammich and take some pictures." I did get to play with my new BK9 (thanks again, JV3!). That thing is a beast! Riz_aaroni was rockin' that Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe again, and it was pretty cool to see JV3's Lite Machete chop the hell out of some insanely hard wood we had around our little "camp" spot. Unfortunately we all kinda suck with the tree ID thing, so we couldn't quite put a name to it, other than say it was fuggin' tough! :p

Anyways, it was a great day, and thankfully the weather held out so we could enjoy it. Can't wait for next time already! On to the pics.

Random camp-ish shots..

A few more comin'..

Finally, here's a trio of riz_aaroni playin' lumberjack again. For whatever reason, all the wood around us was dead and insanely, really really, unnecessarily hard. Took a whiiiiiile, but in the end, he conquered.

Well, that's it for now. There's a whole bunch more pics I took, but I'm sure JV3 and riz_aaroni will post up a bunch more, too. Thanks for looking.

thanks for the pics. looks likea lot of fun. like the Merrells too! all i wear

I love mine. My only complaint was crappy laces that kept untying. I just swapped 'em out for 550 cord and just pull reeeaaaally tight. Problem solved :D

thanks for the awesome pics, bro! holy crap, this is one of the nicest pics i've seen and sums up exactly how i feel about the bushcraft - absolutely perfect! that's some national geographic material right there  all we need are nekkid wimmenz in the background and you're legit!

i'm way too wasted already to sort through the pics i took so i'll do that tomorrow and post here. i hope the bourbon will kill whatever pathogens that yummy grub may have been harboring before i ate it - i wish there were more of them and a lot fattier! what bear grylls consider a last ditch protein source i consider an everyday snack :D

that bk-9 by the way was my very first becker! i'm happy it went to a deserving home rather than to someone else who might've just stuck it in a drawer somewhere for the occasional photoshoot/mall ninja poseur crap

we were all wearing merrells...really nice shoes indeed. glad you like the pics!

lets see, a Leatherman, BK and a GB

cant be too prepared...

Hey, never know what you may need. Add an izula in my pocket and a case sodbuster! (technically the bk13 and SAK classic too )

Great photos. Was a lot of fun, though my body is, and will, be paying for it.

I hate that tree btw. I need to study up on trees simply to avoid that kind.

Those shots of the spyderco bushcraft are great too, proved to be a great knife in many ways.

Why are you guys wearing those gloves? Not hating, just wondering why. Thanks.

Chris.

Great pics. Has me rethinking the Spyderco bushcraft.
And makes me want that ESEE/Condor machete even more.

Dude is wearing knee pads and you're asking about gloves? :D
I'm just razzing. I carry gloves too. Better grip. Hands stay warmer and more nimble. Safer all around.
As for the knee pads, good idea actually. I can see how they could be really handy around camp--building fires, prepping wood, etc.

Hey Nadz....

Thanks for taking me along on what looks to have been a great time.... From your other thread I just knew there had to be smoke and fire coming....YEAH.....Great pics and great narrative....

Thanks for the post....

All Best....

All Best...

All the pics are good, but there are several really nice shots as far as framing, content and clarity.

I'm prone to wack my knuckles on random things, so the gloves add a layer of protection. Plus some stuff can just be really rough on your hands, having the gloves on helps a lot. Keeps your hands cleaner too. Though I can tell you from first hand experience, they are not fire/axe proof...ouch.

Lol. When I saw the first pic of me with the knee pads, I was like "why did he post that one?!" Then I waited for the reaming, though it didn't happen, so I am happy lol. They can definitely be useful in rocky terrain for doing just what you mentioned. The fire was easy going yesterday, though on previous trips it was much more work. I think JV3 with the chair is a great idea too.

Thanks a lot, brother. I likes to take me some pictures, probably more than anything else I end up doing in the woods. Oh yea, and I likes to eat, too :D

Those pictures are outstanding! Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks, guys. I bring my Canon 50D with me whenever I go into the woods, usually with my 17-85mm lens. Sometimes my 70-200 f/4L comes along, too, but I left it home yesterday with the rest of my gear.

Nah, man. The knee pads are actually a pretty good idea. Hell, I couldn't een get comfortable sitting in most spots around there bc of all the damn rocks and uneven ground. Felt like I was gonna roll downhill haha. The kneepads are a nice piece of protection when starting fires and stuff like that. Besides, we can always pass them off to the nekkid tribal wimmenz when JV3 brings them around next time ;)
