Beckers and others in Jungle Habitat today [Pic heavy]

Nah, man. The knee pads are actually a pretty good idea. Hell, I couldn't een get comfortable sitting in most spots around there bc of all the damn rocks and uneven ground. Felt like I was gonna roll downhill haha. The kneepads are a nice piece of protection when starting fires and stuff like that. Besides, we can always pass them off to the nekkid tribal wimmenz when JV3 brings them around next time ;)

-Nadz

Oh yeah! I guess you could use the kneepads as a butt pad or something lol.

Looks like fun. Looking at all that stuff hanging off your belt made me think of something...I have been considering ordering some of those Spec-Ops Combat suspenders. When you are out in the bush and carrying a lot of stuff it can be hard keeping your pants up. Want to get some kevlar-liner Police gloves they use for frisking people. Seems like a good thing to have for bladework.

Anyone not wanting gloves out in the field probably hasn't cut themselves good enough yet...

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I'm all about gloves. Hell, my hands get beat up enough at work. Considering I make my living with them, I'd like to keep them safe-ish for a little bit. That and I don't want to ruin my manicure! :D

Knife Nuts...you'll know 'em when you see 'em!!!!

Nice pics of a nice outing!
Like others said I like the gloves and knee pads. But what I really liked was that little three legged collapsible stool. How often don't you find a great campsite but there's just nowhere to sit. I can only do the Yoga lotus position for about 20 seconds and then I have to stretch out my legs.

Thanks for sharing.

Why are you guys wearing those gloves? Not hating, just wondering why. Thanks.

Chris.

so i don't leave finger prints behind...i also bring a shovel with me and a bottle of chlorox to destroy dna evidence :D

alright, bro. the manicure i can barely tolerate as it is but i better not see you bringing a chapstick too or else i'm not hiking with you anymore :D

glad you like the pics! yeah, i don't do the ultra-light hiking crap. if i want to cover distance i go mountain biking (which i do almost weekly too anyway). when i go hiking my goal is to enjoy the scenery/woods and play with knives - literally half of my 65 liter pack is taken up by knives alone! taking along a stool isn't going to break my back...not to mention it rests my legs. guess which one of us would be way in front of the others in case we get chased by a bear? :p

edit: the rest of my pack is taken up by 3-4 liters of water, food, tarp, first aid, etc...basically even on day hikes i pack as if i'm going on an overnighter or two - regardless of season or weather forecast for that day...muscles and endurance are easy to build up and reliable compared to a cell phone signal to dial 911.

Great pics. Has me rethinking the Spyderco bushcraft.
And makes me want that ESEE/Condor machete even more.

Dude is wearing knee pads and you're asking about gloves? :D
I'm just razzing. I carry gloves too. Better grip. Hands stay warmer and more nimble. Safer all around.
As for the knee pads, good idea actually. I can see how they could be really handy around camp--building fires, prepping wood, etc.

i'll start a new thread on the esee forum regarding the lite machete from this hike and others i've done. in summary, if i'm carrying a 4" knife anyway i'll take the machete anyday over the junglas! and i'm not just saying that like so many others here on bladeforums who recommend one knife over another without ever using their knives beyond cutting printer paper. i've used them side by side in all weather including winter and i'll take the machete anyday.

as far as riz' kneepads...that's high speed, low drag tactical bushcrafter right there! i've heard of bushcraft groupies before...riz can have them...i like wimmenz who shave their legs and arm pits :D

Just to take some of the heat off riz, I'll admit to using knee pads in a bushcraft capacity. :D
Well, sort of... On the first part of that bow-drill challenge (the dismal failure part), I used knee pads because I was working on my concrete back patio.
They did a great job of making the bow drill a lot more comfortable enterprise.

555 and I have longstanding jokes about Becker Neckers, Quickrete, and now, Crocs. Here's a pic I took for him a while back. :p

alright here are my pics...it came from my iphone so don't go comparing the quality of it with nadz' pics now. one of the many animal enclosures in this once drive-thru safari. otter slide - i've heard a few dirty stories regarding this spot due to the shape of it...it's somehow ergonomic for extracurricular activities...or so i'm told.

a local once told me they kept a dolphin here although i highly doubt it due to the size.

one of many hunting platforms although the actual platform on this one is gone. the hunting might not be that good here since this one seems to have been abandoned a long time ago.

i spotted this about 50 ft away or so and i walked towards it to get a closer look to see exactly what it was while riz and gonadz waited for me. now this one really creeped me out and i was happy that i was with friends who were knife nuts but i wish we were allowed to carry guns too...a pile of bones that clearly someone piled on top.

024_005.jpg

closer look...doesn't look like human bones to me but still creepy at least all piled up like that. jungle habitat is in "weird nj" after all. lots of weird stuff surrounding this park, made up or otherwise. all i know is i'm packing several 1,000 lumens flashlights and big knives at least if i ever do an overnighter on this park!

024_006.jpg

this pic doesn't really show how many wood chips were flying all over the place! riz and gonadz were wailing at this tree for quite awhile i was tempted to join in with my machete. i must say nadz with my ex bk-9 kept up pretty well in the chopping contest against the gransfors bruks axe when it came to wrist-size limbs...i gotta say, this was the first time i ever thought about whether or not i packed enough quikclot and other trauma bandages in my first-aid kit  i'm going to have to give the 911 folks a head's up a day or two in advance the next time i hike with these guys and bring booze along too :D

It's always weird to find bones in the woods but a carefully stacked pile of them? Funky! I wonder what the heck was going on there.
