So I went to one of my LGS today, well its actually an army navy store, but by FAR the best selection of knives where I am (Beckers bms and zt etc...). I was going to pick up a 14 and a 16 if the price was right.....let me tell you, it WASNT!

How much are Beckers around your LGS? Just to break it down real quick....

Bk 14 -$60
Bk 16 -$96

Seriously? Told the dude thanks for letting me get my hands on it and I wanted it but I couldn't pay what they are asking. Now I'm all for supporting local business but damn!

Similar experiences with anyone??

Tomar....much better

Yea, I did order them online

14-$30
16-$60
24-$45

That reminds me, I'm going to be doing an every day cut task on the 14 and 24. Everything I cut with one I will cut with the other and post the results after a week.

Anyone already done something like that?

I can't find Beckers anywhere around Dallas/Ft.Worth. I'm pretty sure that if I did there'd be a 30 - 40% markup. It's just the cost of running a brick and mortar store. I can't blame them for trying to turn a profit and they can't blame me for trying to get the most for my money.

I will always buy from a local store if possible. I paid $180 for my Spyderco Caly 3.5 from a local store while on a recent trip to Dallas to visit my parents. When it comes to supporting a local store I have no problems paying what they are asking. People complain about not being able to handle knives before buying yet when they can they go to handle them at a local store then turn around and buy online because its cheaper that just doesn't make sense at all to me.

Btw rk if you want a local store in DFW where you can handle a bunch of knives shoot me an email. However that's where I got my Caly at so be prepared the prices are a lot higher than you will find online.

Yea, unfortunately we don't get a lot of love with the brick and mortar in north/east Texas...

What makes your local store, especially in a major metropolitan area like DFW any more deserving than an online retailer like Tomars? I've bought PLENTY of blades from the particular store I'm talking about. And I understand markup, but a 80%-100% markup is absurd.

I'm in Tyler tx and my local army/navy store stocks them. Bk14-$50, bk17-$80, etc. The markup is a tad high, but if u hate waiting, you just pay for it I guess.

The only time I have ever seen a Becker in a brick and mortar store is at Sloans and I think Ethan had something to do with that.

I don't think it makes them mores deserving it just eats me up when people complain about not being able to handle knives because they don't have a store local that sells them, yet if they are lucky enough to have a store local to them they go handle the knives (taking up an employees time) then turn around and buy online because its cheaper, just seems a little off to me. The store I am talking about in DFW had a BK16 listed at 84.99 plus tax which given the cost of the building and employees I think is more than fair given most online sellers don't have those expenses so of course they are going to be able to sell for less.

It really boils down to its your money and no one can tell you how or where to spend it. I for one will always support a local business if possible even if it does cost me a good bit more to do so.

Hope you buy your bread at the local bakery then, and not Walmart....

And when did I say I went there just to handle them? I said I THANKED him for letting me handle them....had no idea what his prices were when I went in.

Keroscene?! I'm in Tyler too! Went to our Army Navy store today, $96 for a 16 and $55 for a 14...no joke. My gf bought me a 15 for Christmas there for $110.....

Also before we go any further with our little spat, my family owns in of the larger gun stores in north/east Texas....and I don't buy everything there either.

Pretty sure the tweeners MSRP is $110 so that may be what the brick and mortar stores are going with. I would pay $80 for a 17 like keroscene said, but not much more than that. I am fine paying more for a local guy but I dont run a charity either, they need to be in the ballpark at least.

I have only found Beckers in one store in the Denver area. They only carry the 2, 15, and 16. The 2 is $89. The 15 and 16 are $82. Its nice to check them out before buying, something I rarely get to do with Beckers.

wow, what are the odds of that? lol. Yea, that same army/navy has 2, yes 2, ZT's....0350 @$170 and 0560 @ $240!!!! rape in every single facet of the word, lol!

you should come by the Best Buy car install bay with your blades someday. me and the other installer here are both members on here and LOVE us some sharp, pointy weapons!

Yea that ZT 0560 is absurd! Still charging $250 for benchmade 3550 I believe too.

I'll have to come by. Didn't even know that there still was a car install place at Best Buy. I wanted to put a screen in my '12 avalanche around Christmas. Must have called the store 20 times and spent 30 minutes on hold trying to figure out a time to come do it, lol!

ummm, so that means that if you cut yourself with one, you will repeat with the other? :D
