Beckers at your LGS

My local surplus store , all prices in Aussie dollars; bk9 :$220 , bk15; $120 , bk17 ; $130 , bk3 ;$300 ! Bk7 ; $160

I have run into the same situation too many times aswell. The most recent was a Cold Steel Lawman I was mildly interested in for a beat on folder. I stopped by a shop I knew carried Cold Steel knives, with every intention of walking out with the Lawman. I have no problem paying a 15-20% markup to support local business. Well after seeing I could buy 2 (On amazon and have in 2 days) and still have money left over for their asking price I walked out empty handed.
I find markups like this insulting and I will not be shopping at this store again.

Only one LGS here in Portland carries Beckers, and they only have the 2($100) & 16 ($80).
They usually have some snot nosed kid, (geez I'm getting old), behind the counter who doesn't know the first thing about knives...
I will pay more for excellent and knowledgable service, no problem, but ridiculous prices coupled with crappy service...thanks for letting me fondle them, but...

Hey MrK, you are right there are only a few places in the Portland area which carries the BK. A gun store in Gresham carries the 11 and 14, for reasonable prices. My wife picked up my(now hers) 11 there for about a slight mark up, but not too bad.

I don't mind paying a little more for the BKs online when I can get really fast shipping. But I will not fork over 100 for a two no matter where it is.

I think I know which store in Gresham you're talking about, haven't been there in a couple of years, need to pay them a visit.
The one I went to is a big sporting goods store out on 82nd, you know the one I mean...cheap(ish) ammo and powder, (sometimes), but it seems like they'll hire just about anyone to work the knife counter though.
I will admit, they have a heck of a selection. A little bit of everything.

The idiots at my local surplus store try to tell me how a muela is a good knife. And they sell fury junk , plus knockoffs of knockoffs , and none of the staff know jack sh*t about knives. At least you guys can have folders , cos under australian law , any knife that can be opened with one hand , can now be confiscated by customs . So even anything with a thumb stud.

Yup, I know the place, LOL

There is also a gunstore over in Vancouver, I can't remember the name of the place which carries the 7 and 9. But they are mark-up prices.

The closest store to me that carries BK&T products. My wife has banned me from there as every time I go I come home with a new knife or 1000+ rounds of ammo.

Seeing the 7, 9 and 15 at those prices is just excruciating.

Hah! that ain't bad. Lebaron's is about 35min away from my house.

S&R is the other store that holds our beloved Becker products. This one is about 45-1hour away depending on traffic.

Looks like I need to reserve my buying for when I cross the boarder on vacations (and try to win some contests lol)

I haven't been able to find any place local that sells BK&T. There isn't really a "knife store" in my area (closest one I've found is 40 miles away). The local gun shops and outdoors stores all tell me the same thing ("we can order it") after I give them a detailed explanation of what I'm looking for ("no, I'm not looking for the Ka-Bar USMC knife, I'm looking for...). Even then, I had one of them basically tell me there was no such thing as a BK14. When they finally figured it out, it was going to be over $50 ($20 more than what I paid online).

I got my 2 at a gun show last fall for the same price it was going online at the time (talked him down). My 3 was a gift and I ordered my 14 online. I can't figure out why the local places around don't carry them.

Ugh, absolutely horrid. The Big River Store is your friend, my friend. haha

Hey guys please remember its against the rules to post links to places selling things that don't advertise here at bladeforums. Discussing prices at unnamed locations is one thing but posting links is not allowed.

All posts have been edited - Sorry about that.

I was just providing evidence in the case of box store price rape vs. me. I would believe this thread would be the opposite of deal spotting or advertising because nobody in their right mind would want to overpay for something. Rules are rules tho!

Yea that ZT 0560 is absurd! Still charging $250 for benchmade 3550 I believe too.

I'll have to come by. Didn't even know that there still was a car install place at Best Buy. I wanted to put a screen in my '12 avalanche around Christmas. Must have called the store 20 times and spent 30 minutes on hold trying to figure out a time to come do it, lol!
Not surprised at all. I'm working on building our business, but it was beyond wrecked when I took the reins and the sales floor still has no idea how to sell car audio. It's terrible. If u actually can get to me or my coworker, u get amazing service from very experienced installers. Lol, that's a big if though.

The only time I saw a Becker for sale in person was at a sporting goods store. It was a 15 for $89 and a 7 for $119.

I'd seen a couple ESEEs and BK's at the local surplus store once, so when I wanted a 15 a couple weeks ago I went there first. I was prepared to spend about $80 for it, if it was in stock and I got to handle it first.
They had a 16 for $99 and no 15 or 17. So I left and ordered it online for low '60's with no tax and cheap shipping.

There is an LGS that carries some (last time in, less than a year ago, he even had a couple Camillus in the back room), but it's run by a bit of an old codger. Marked at MSRP, cash only, and if you mention "online" or "internet" in the store, he stops helping and refuses to sell you stuff. He'd probably work a reasonable deal if I used a different approach, but he was such a jerk about it I don't want to give him any of my money. I don't particularly want him to go out of business, because we already have so few decent gun shops around here and it's been said he offers great service and gunsmithing. But it seems like he isn't too interested in staying in business. (I wasn't trying to get anything for internet prices - just trying to work a fair and reasonable deal for us both.)
I haven't gone back.
