Had a few Beckers with grungy looking screws and went to stainless steel - anyone else tried this?

By the way, it would help if I owned a hardware store - these little screws are not cheap!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I change all mine to stainless. Every user I have has had rusty bolts, so I switch em all out.....

Really snazzes them up, I like that. Merry Christmas to you as well!

I change most of mine to stainless as well. Keeps the corrosion out of the handle area and since I use mine for food / game quite a bit, I like to not have the black-oxide bolts.

Big fan of the Stainless bolts.
I like the locknuts on them too. I think it was Derek who recomended that.
I still need somee SS for my 11.

I put some on my BK2 last weekend. Took me 3 hardware stores to find the right length.

Stainless is the ONLY way to go!

It seems like water always finds a way to get into the nuts and bolts.

Merry Christmas!

Hey Colonel, what size are the 11 bolts? The FAQ lists them as 5/8ths but that seems kinda long...

I've been looking around for some brass bolts for my BK14, didn't have any luck up to date though:(. Cool looking!

CamH_16 - Mine measure exactly 1/2" including the head. They fit the 11 perfectly with the Micarta scales. Of course other kinds of handles might require a different screw size. Enjoy!

I made new micarta scales for the Divtul I found last year and used stainless bolts and nuts that I got from a local home improvement superstore. The large holes required for the nuts are ugly but they function.

I also used them on a Condor throwing axe when I made micarta handles.

Dare I breath the name of another knife other than that of a Becker. But on the M-18's I make with Ethans handles, I use SS. Its the only way to go Col.

I just did this to both of my BK-2's. I used self locking nuts, just "in case".

I like the way the stainless looks in the black handles.

I have a Camillus-made BK-7, and I switched the screws out to stainless slotted screws several years ago. I held them in the open flame of our gas stove, then dropped them into a glass of water. It darkened them to a nice purple-black color.

I used slotted screws so I could take the scales off with my Victorinox Huntsman screwdriver. I'll have to find a pic of the side with the screws; this is the nuts on the reverse side.
