beckers?

If you are looking for a blade primarily for battoning, I would have to say that the Cold Steel Bushman would be perfect. It's not pretty, but it's one hell of a tough knife. Also, if you decide you don't like it, you're only out about $25.

A machete lets plenty hang out the other side of the wood. It is also tempered fairly soft, so it is pretty indestructible.

well, i just ordered one. Thanks for the tips guys. I'll tell ya how it works out.

Haha. Alright, I'll fill you in.

The necker will look the same as the original. There will a limited edition model, as seen in the picture. Later they will will produce the one on the paper, which can be used as a screw. The kydex sheath has a nice distinct click when the knife is put in. Price range is unconfirmed, but will be around $50-$60. The steel is suppose to be a lot tougher.

"nice distinct click" - I'm preety sure it's rather zytel than kydex. Also notice that sheath has shape will be universal - both for standrard and chisel/tanto neckers. But I love new long handle hole shape - that was missing from original necker.

So the new Becker Necker is going to be a chisel ground tanto? Looks like the originals just doubled in value. What a waste of steel...

Glad I have a BK11 Becker necker because if that is going into production"tanto necker " I will not be interested at all...:thumbdn:

Reads to me like two versions of the necker to be produced originial version, the Tanto with wrench in handle plus the limited edition in san mai steel

does anybody know what steel the new Ka-bar beckers will be made from ?

I had to go back and re-listen, but Ethan said they will be 1095CroVan, very close to the 0170-6C steel used in the old Beckers. Performance should be good.
I look forward to the re-release. He said the 2,3,7,9 should be out by september, but I did not hear the BK-5 mentioned. I guess we will have to wait until shot or blade next year.

I know I heard that the BK1 " Brute" will not be re-issued thru Kabar as well as the another...can't remeber the second... Glad I picked up a BK1...

There should be 3 versions of the necker. One in 1095, one in san mai, and the third will be the chisel ground tanto

with a used BK-7 I bought off this forum for $70.00 and for the last 2 days I've been using it to split wood for the fire pit which has been a lot of hickory and some pine...it dosn't hold an edge like my Busse BM did..but for the money it would be hard to beat.:D

I love the BK7's I have 3 now and a Tan BK7 NIB inbound as we type...BK7 is my Favorite blade of the Becker series.

2 Brutes, 2 Campanions, 1 TacTool, 1 Matchax, 1 Magnum (Inbound), 1 Machette, 2 BK7s, 1 BK7 Desert, 1 Extreme, 1 BK9, 1 BK9 Desert, 1 Crewman, 1 Crewman Desert, 1 Necker.... Phew!

I love the Brute, the BK7, and especially the Crewman. While the Brute is my all time favorite chopper, I find a lot more uses for the Crewman and it's much easier to carry.

I'm up for another Necker and possibly some of the new models. Not much interested in Tantos. My guess is that this was on KBars wish list. They'll want knives that will sell without canabalizing their existing business.

Good choice on the bushman, I stripped mine and put a drop point on it, very easy to mod. It's one of my favourite blades.
Another vote for the ranger knives as well, look at the RD7.

Great, I'm glad to hear it. What do you mean by stripped? getting the black coating off? I'll wait till I actually have used it, but I'm guessing that I'll prefer a drop point too. How well does the steel hold an edge? Also, I'd love to see some pictures of your modded one if you have 'em. :)

Just some sandpaper, I cut 3/4 of an inch of the handle as well, it helped the balance but I actually wish i had kept it longer, more room to store stuff and a more secure grip if I made a spear from it. You can put a 2 foot length on it and use it as a sort machete instead of a spear as well.
Holds an edge pretty well, I have to put a good convex on it still.

Sorry for the bad pic, I am starting a new thread soon with pics from the new camera of all my blades as soon as my RC4 comes in, you can get a better look at it then.
