This was a good one folks!
Thanks to Ethan, Ka-bar, Abrasion, Fal'er, Logan, and everyone else who helped make this possible!
As usual I was having way too much fun and didn't get as many pics as I would have liked. Oh well, here's a few:
Me and Beardlove arrived at 11:00am Friday and got set up. Just being there and hanging out under the evergreens really is relaxing and good for the soul.
Friday was pretty laid back for the most part. Just relaxing by the fire, enjoying a few beverages...
Saturday morning featured many lbs. of bacon and other assorted breakfast meats.
Between all the stuff that Ka-bar sent and all that Ethan brought, the tables were overflowing with swag.
First contest was chopping. Use a 10" or less blade to chop through a 4x4. The times were amazing! Dan won with 22 sec. Using a Siegle. Hawk590 came in 2nd with 32 sec. using a Ka-bar BK9. And I placed 3rd with 38 sec. However, about 22 seconds into it, my Camillus BK9 snapped in two. Damn! I finished up with Bills knife and Ethan promised to send me a new BK9.
During the competition another unfortunate accident occurred. Fal'ers hand met up with ASHGA's BK7 and gave him a nasty slice. First aid was given.
RRR won the hawk throwing event. He stuck 6 cards out of 10 throws. He also throws like he's trying to murder the target! Lol.
Next was the shooting competition hosted by Awesome-O-4000. The contestants got one shot a piece from four different WWll rifles.
710's daughter had never shot a gun so Dan let her fire a small .22 savage. She was a good shot! So then he let her shoot the FAL. She fired it, hit the target, and had a huge smile on her face. It was awesome!
When we got back to camp, Abrasion had a request. "Hey Jon, take a picture of me so everyone can see how cool I look".
Here's what we ended up with.
We decided to throw a little twist into the fire making contest - darkness!
Contestants were allowed one knife, one firesteel, and one lamp. Everything for the fire had to be foraged in the dark. And everything was wet! First one to burn the string wins.
710 placed first, NixKustoms came in second, and FAL'ER placed third while competing one-handed.
Saturday night was a lot of fun.Nick released the Kracken... I'm still cursing him and his spiced Nog.
Sunday morning we cleaned up and said our goodbyes. It was great seeing familiar faces and I met a few new friends as well. I had a great time once again and I'm already looking forward to the next gathering!
Here's about 10% of the knives that folks brought out.
I also picked up a BK5 leather/kydex scout carry sheath from NixKustoms and a leather front/kydex backed BK9 sheath from 710.
They are both amazing makers and I'll be posting pics and reviews of both sheaths here in the near future.
