MISCELLANEOUS fine print: Winner agrees to abide by all local, state, and federal laws regarding knife ownership. We will not be held responsible for any injury or death caused by inappropriate use of the knife. The knife is not a toy and should not be treated as such. These knives are sharp and can cause injury if mishandled.

Rules
Darrel expressed to me that he wanted a dedicated person to review HTM (not DDR...sorry :P ) knives. What should make this appealing is that whoever we (Darrel, Dirk, and myself) pick will get to keep all the knives that are sent out to get reviewed.

The contest is simple. Write a review of a knife, any knife. Post the review in this thread so everything is consolidated. We (Darrel, Dirk, and myself) will pick the winner based on a number of things, grammar included. Sorry if you fail at grammar. :p I'm no English professor, so mostly correct grammar will have to do. A few spelling errors here and there are fine. Just...uh, spell check before you post a review if you end up becoming the HTM reviewer. Remember, it might go on HTM's site or Darrel's blog.

I'm so in for this. I love doing detailed reviews. Are you looking for photo or video reviews or both?
Hmm. Good question. I think Darrel just wants written, but that would definitely be a bonus to have a video review that could go up on, say, a dedicated HTM youtube channel. That's a good idea.

JK Camp and Kitchen Knife Set

I was priviledged to be the first reviewer of the new JK Camp and Kitchen Knife and it's companion Paring Knife.

These new designs by Stomper's wife, aka "The Boss", are a new direction for JK Handmade Knives.

Initial impression:

Both knives arrived sharp enough to rough-shave, meaning that I could swipe hair from my arm, but I would not want to shave my face with them.

The knives have Stompers convex grind, and both are beautifully finished, with the handle contours wonderfully sanded The rivets are all flush and both knives are symmetric, with even grinds and all work is without flaw.

The knives feel great in the hand. The micarta has a very nice grip, even when wet.

To start my evaluation, I sliced up some green pepper for snacking:

The C&K was excellent at the task. Then I did some tomato slicing with it:

How thin do you like your 'mater slices? It's up to you with the C&K:

Dinner was ready in a hurry with the help of the JK Kitchen knives.

Next, to give the C&K some patina, how about a nice chopped Vidalia Onion and some potatoes?

I made some of my own recipe Brandy Peppercorn Cream Filets to eat with the potatoes and onions. I used the C&K as my table knife, where it worked very well.

The next night, I had eye of round steaks, and I again used the C&K as my table knife, I liked using it at the table.

Next, I put the paring knife to use cleaning a beef tenderloin roll:

If you've never done this task, you need a good sharp blade to get the bits of connective tissue from the roll:

Then you need something similar to a filet knife to get the "silver-skin" from the filet:

The JK Paring Knife did the trick! It was a little small to cut the steaks, so I went back to the C&K for that task:

I then cut up some asparagus to grill along with a couple of the filets:

That made a nice little meal. I used the Paring knife as my table knife for this meal.

As my time with the two pass-around knives comes to an end, I have only good things to say about the new offerings from JK Handmade Knives. It's nice to have a custom made knife to work with in the kitchen. I enjoy the patina that the 01 steel starts to develop, and I was happy to contribute to the patina of these two fine knives:

I understand that these will be offered in a combo for a reduced price as compared to buying each one separately. I don't think Stomper has set the pricing on these yet, but I know I will want a set of them!

Thanks for reading my review, and if you wish, all of my pictures of the two knives can be found at the following link:

I've always wanted to do an important knife review.
Not in it for the free knives, I would just really like the opportunity to offer a valued opinion.
Although the possibility of free knives is certainly a neat bonus.

Cool Idea.

Maybe the desire to get a nice knife to review and keep will start a ground swell of proper grammar and spelling! One can dream.........one can dream.

crap.....

understandable....but still too bad for me. I really enjoy writing reviews.
I will ask Darrel about that. I just figured he didn't feel like mailing knives overseas and dealing with all of that stuff. Some of the best reviews I've read and seen on youtube have come from people of other countries.

I'd like a chance at this. I think I'm pretty happy with my current duo of edc knives. But you ever know...

I'd like to, If I am chosen, do a give away of any knives that I review. :D ( or at least a pass around)

...I'll get to work...

If you win they're your knives to do with what you wish.

Do video reviews count?
