Becoming Minimalistic

The thing is, I feel more free not having the burden of so many choices available to me, which was the point of it. Every morning when I wake up, the same EDC knife is on the table next to me that I will carry everyday. There's no thought behind it. It's like grabbing your keys, wallet and phone and heading out the door. That feeling is more valuable to me than a draw full of forgotten, barely used knives.

Yeah, not going to lie, that seems like an insight that could apply to other areas of life as well. Haha. That's why I limit my fly patterns when I am fly fishing. I want to spend my time fishing, not obsessing over which one of the gray dry flies that I have will make a trout rise. It's good to find something you like and stick with it.

I've actually done the same with my fishing lures. I have a handful of lures that I use now and they do indeed catch fish! I used to have a stack of lures. Figured out I wasn't using 90% of them and sold them. Fishing lures are actually worse than knives. It's so easy to accumulate boxes and boxes of lures. Go into the fishing shop looking to buy hooks and come out with four new lures.

Ahhhh….nice to see another flyfisherman. I, too, have developed a minimalistic approach to my fly fishing. I live on the East Coast, and 90% of my fly fishing is done with a dry caddis, Adams midge or Wooly Bugger.

Thinning the herd has appealed to me, but rarely do I make the effort. I have traded a few and given a few as gift….but then another one or two creep into the collection.

And THAT, is why I am still here.

Although my knife collection is down to what I can hold in one hand, and no plans to ever go buying again, and even my interest has faded, its the people that I've met and got to know here that keeps me coming back. Like a drunk that has joined the AA, stopping by the bar to see old friends and have great conversation while sipping a club soda with a twist of lime in it.

Its the people we get to know that makes the difference.

Very well put. Love reading your posts my friend.

so i did good, but also bad.. i sold 3 of my microtech 2 days ago… but accidentally bought my first 2 sebenza 31s last night.. so now i have to wait 2 weeks to list my mint utx-85.. whittled my entire collection down to 2 bugouts, large/small sebenza 31, and a UMS ultratech.
