Bed frame steel?

Oh, lol. I see. Well, the challenge still stands for anyone else that might want to make a bed frame knife and test it. I'm working on one now... I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
 
I found a bed frame rail at work today, water quenched it. It's just plain low carbon steel, nothing special. Now I do have access to many many ton's/lbs of unknown, but over .80c of scrap steel(for free), But I like working with scrap leaf springs right now,
 
I was talking to Bob Eggerling a few minutes ago about the outfit that reworks the RR track. He said he'd have to look up the # and get a contact name for me. He also told me He has used bed frame steel for making damascus and said it was in the 60/65 range for carbon.

Hell, I'll make a knife out of it! With all the steel I have I still like giving a spring or file something new to do. I'll forge one out this weekend. Who else is going to give it a shot. Tai, they got bed frames where you come from?
 
Hell yeah, Aldo! Glad you've decided to try it out. I can't wait to see it. I should have mine done in a couple days. It IS fun turning something scrap or in this case my old bed frame into a working knife. Would be cool if others gave it a go too. Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm actually surprised this has made it to page 4. :)

No,... all we have out here are futons and straw mats. :)
I usually sleep under a bush in a trough I dug out in the sand.

There are some fence rails that might make cool triple edged blades though. LOL

(Seriously,... I have a spare bed frame I might test out.) :)
