I've had a model 50 variable speed for going on about 5 years now, definately the best money I've ever spent on equipment, if memory serves it comes standard with a 8" contact wheel, but I special ordered mine with a 10", didnt cost very much extra.
Sabre.
You can't go wrong with a model 50.
Definintely go with the variable speed version. I have the single speed that I have slowed down with an adapter wheel I got from Joe Arnold and it works great.
The way the Canadian dollar is you Yanks can pick up these grinders for a song.
I am guessing that you were talking with Jim Downie or his wife Pat. They are very fine people and you can believe all they say is true about the items they sell.
2 ?s. First, do they sell it w/o a motor? And Second, will it take a larger, variable speed motor? I'm currently using a 1 hp I got from Koval eight or ten years ago, and it's fine for 3/32, maybe 1/8, but if I work on 5/64", or even large 1/8" blades, I can bog it down. My next one will have to have more HP.
