Beef with the Bk-2 Sheath (nylon loop)

Hi all,

I love my Bk-2 owned it for couple of months. My issue is I hate the nylon loop on the sheath, every time I draw the bk-2 i need two hands to re sheath it! Has anyone found this to be a complaint or am I the only one? I found a leather drop loop from knivesshipfree.com has anyone tried that drop loop, if so did it work? Basically, I want to mod the bk-2's sheath to be a one handed draw and re draw, and i want to eliminate the button retention strap no need the factory sheath has plenty of retention.

Thanks for listening.

If you really think it has enough retention from just the sheath then just cut the loop off.

Or if you are gonna be buying something anyway why not have a kydex sheath made for it?

Man, I thought you found somwhere that sells sheaths and steaks. I was excited for a moment. Liar. :D

Just kidding. A leather drop down would be alright, but alot depends on the oz of the leather. I use 10-11oz shoulder cuts for my sheaths, and the stuff is pretty thick, with my sealer (bee's wax and lanolin), it gets pretty stiff.

I am a little confused, so help me out, it takes 2 hands to unsheath it, or resheath it. Mine, it takes 2 hands to unsheath, unless I want to look like a ferret humping a doorknob. I can resheath one handed fine.

The first thing I done when I got my new GEN2 BK2 is to cut the sheath apart and finds out why it keeps dulling my knife, and second thing, was to make me a HD leather sheath for it. I sell sheaths, so I had someone offer me more money than I could pass up this weekend, so I sold my M1. Now, I'm back to the factory sheath until I build a new one.

I am actually (gawd help me) thinking of buying a Spec Ops Combat Master or the ESEE molle back 5 and pouch (gawd, I hope Jeff doesn't check this forum) to work with my factory kydex body. Either way, by next weekend, my baby will be sporting some new clothes.

Best of luck to you.

you could remove the loop and install a tek-lok and booyah, no worries about flopping around or yanking it hard, or all that...

Bladite - that is a mini tek lok, correct? Will the large cover 4 holes or still just the 2.

The lack of symmetry would bother me, I think.

i dunno mini from other sizes... it's what i got :)

about 1.5 x 2 inches?

Yeah, its the small tekloc, mines bigger. snerk:D

I tried it, didn't like it, but I don't like teklocs period. They are too thick, but they are a very viable solution for alot of different carry options.

I need to come up with something for my BK2, I seem to be having a hard time coming up with something I like in leather. I have the old standby M1 design I made, but I want something a little more, um, badass than that one. Its just meat and potatoes on that guy.

DON'T CUT THE SNAP RETENTION STRAP OFF!!!!

What I found carrying the BK-2 around for a weekend of camping is if the snap strap isn't fastened, the BK-2 wants to hang inverted off the belt. Now, part of that could be because I have the micarta scales on it, which shifts the center of gravity toward the grip, I believe, so it might not be as much a problem with the grivory scales.

Leather belt loop for 1.5" belt with firesteel loop and integral leather pouch that holds an altoids tin... wet molded and bottom half hilt only retention strap w/ snap... drainage hole in sheath and pouch... multiple grommets for para wrap / tie down points... option to make it a dangler...

I like black...

That's my M1. Granted, you got all the fixin's that I offer as additions, but yeah, pretty much my M1

Good looking sheath there Moose. Not really a fan of leather myself, but as they say, different strokes and all that.

There are a few different options people have explored that were not happy with the belt loop. Here was my take on it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793765

and I believe there are other ideas out there as well.

Well, for the Benicio Del Toros in the audience, theres the M2, my horizontal sheath.

With retention

Without. This is the one Ethan has. (It was a gift, he refused to buy it, on the grounds it sucked.)

It occurs to me, are you using a strap to go around your leg when you attach this? Even with hip carry, a single strap around the leg done right would help immensely. You would need one for drop leg carry as well, so it might be you could get by with just the strap. Wal-Mart has some for like a dollar or two that come with quick release buckles.

Haha...nice reference to "The Hunted". The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that the BK2 isn't really suited for scout style carry. I like the idea of it, but it's a tad heavy, and I'm not really sure how it would feel. I like yours, and I know Paul from Hedgehog has hit it out of the park with his incredibly overpriced unit, but still...? I think I'm leaning towards the verticle carry once again...

I took the webbing off mine (silly retention strap broke day 1), ran some paracord through the holes and wear it horizontally in front. I can draw, resheath the knife one-handed (without looking like a doorknob humping ferret - well, nor more than usual anyway).

Works fine but I like the look of Moose's leather sheaths.

LOL! For your sake I hope Jeff doesn't read that.

I've actually got molle back I'm not using that works w/ the ESEE 5 & 6 that looks like it might just line up with the BK2 sheath. I may give it a shot.

Buy aftermarket leather or kydex.
The factory sheaths are most peoples biggest complaint.
No complaints from me I'm buying the knife not the sheath.
Bladites teklok idea is good.
