I would have liked to have used elements like that. I ended up rebuilding the tempering oven using firebrick and the extracted quartz tubes because the roxul was kind of melting a bit (it got harder in places and stuck to the metal) and because it began emitting funny smells. I was recommended here once to use roxul, but i feel it is a bad recommendation. It may be rated for it, but i didnt like what i was seeing and smelling.

Thanks for bringing this thread back up, i will take this chance to recommend people not do what i did here.

I may have been that person (If i used the name rockwool or roxul, I apologize, I was just generally refering to mineral wool). I am not sure which insulation you used, but I haven't had problems. The one I just linked is rated to 1200F continuous.

I suspect if you did use mineral wool, it may have been a rigidizer that melted. Some mineral wools are designed for acoustic insulation and may not be rated for high temp continuous use, depending on the binder/rigidizer used. Mineral wools are commonly used as insulators in medium-high temperature installations where fibreglass is not appropriate.

Apologies if I led you to buy an inappropriate product, but mineral wools in general are regularly used in ovens that go far past 675F without issue.

I dont remember who recommended it or what the rating was, but i know i wouldnt have got anything less than 800 degrees. It was $7, not a big deal. It very well could have been a rigidizer, i didnt know it had a rigidizer. The smell was what made me decide to stop using, though it could have been normal, i dont know. I may have been over cautious but i didnt feel comfortable leaving the room with it on.
