I have read through all of the threads, but I still want to ask for some opinions. I currently have a BK2 and a BK14, but I am wanting to add something larger. I just can't seem to make up my mind between the BK7 and BK9. I am leaning towards the BK7, but the BK9 is just so darn sexy it is hard to resist. It seems like it would be best suited for bigger chopping jobs and would be impractical for smaller jobs and kitchen duty. I don't plan on clearing large areas of land, so the BK9 may be overkill, sexy, sexy overkill.

I know that I will get both, but I am just ordering one this week. I am thinking BK7 unless someone can sway me that I just can't live without the BK9.
 
Get the 9. I really don't care for the 7. If you didn't have a 2 then the 7 might be useful but I believe the 2 out chops the 7 tho. I couldn't decide so I got the 7 and the 9 at the same time and I only use the 9. But that's my opinion. There are some who swear by the 7. If you want something around the size of the 7, get the 12. 12 is all kinds of awesome.
 
The 9 gets more use for me as well. However, when I want to travel a bit lighter and still not be underknifed it's the 7. I know this helped tremendously.
 
You need a BK9. You can't not have a 9.

Im wit Dex here. The 7 just doesnt do it for me. Id rather have a 5, 2, 10, or a 12 over a 7.
Between a 7 and a 9? Its really no choice at all. The 9 is more versitile than you may think.
There are a lot of Beckerheads who just luuuuvvv their 7. Thats cool.
It just does not fill a role for me.
If I want the perfect combo its an 11, 16, and 9. And a 5. :D

I've never been a fan of bigger blades, but after getting a BK9 from Ethan at the last Gathering, I've changed my opinion. The 9 is incredibly versatile for such a large knife. My vote is for the 9.
 
Well, this is why I come to you guys for advice. I was expecting some debate and instead got a consensus for the 9. Order is placed with Amazon Prime two day shipping. Now to wait by the door for the delivery man. Obviously I can't not have a 9.

You'll be very happy with the BK9. You can't not have a 9. It has no business being as good as it is at everything.
 
The nine is the clear answer. It's the King for a reason. All becker lovers love it.
