I rotate my Militarys out from time to time, I have been carrying the CPM D2 version this past week, it has been a long time since I carried it last, so I kinda forgot just how freakin sharp you can get it! CPM D2 takes a very sharp edge.

who out there likes this steel and why? and what do you use it for?

I like it because it takes a wonderfully keen edge and holds it a bit better then S30V. I also love the FG scales. I've never had a problem with staining/rusting on the blade, but I use a Tuf-cloth on almost all my knives.

I wipe mine down about once a weeks if I am carrying it, with a little CLP, never had a issue with it.

I like it because it gets extremely sharp and holds it's edge better than S30V. I EDC'd it for months upon months until my Superhawk came along. Now that my Stretch 2 came along as well I think the CPM D2 Millie might be stuck on back pocket duty or as a sub when the Hawk or Stretch get dull.

I would like to know if anyone has used the CPM D2 on a extended Camping trip and how it held up to the weather, especially Rain!

I went camping/canoeing last week for four days and it rained 50% of the time. While my D2 Para never got wet from the rain, I did not do much to protect it from the extra humidity or conditions, either. One night I absent-mindedly left it sitting on a log until morning. It was in closed position and there was no rain that night, but it was nevertheless fine when I discovered it the next morning:). However, I was terrified just before I opened it to check its fate.

I'm surprised that YOU would let any of your knives get dull.

My D2 Millie has has one of the sharpest edges of any knife I own. Was not hard to put it there either. One of the best Spyderco has made. IMO

Well, dull is a relative thing. For me when it starts not shaving just a bit roughly it is dull, to most people I hand a knife like that to they are very impressed by the sharpness. If I end up breaking down a lot of boxes or something like that it gives me an excuse to rotate knives, because cardboard sure can dull an edge. Since I hurt my back I haven't been able to sharpen as much as I did, but now I've got almost every knife up to an acceptable carry sharpness in case the Millie, Manix, Caly 3 ZDP, Police 3 regrind, or any of my others need to step in. I'm glad my physical therapy is getting my back better ski can do fun things like sharpening more.

I carried mine this weekend. I like Millies for weekend knives because I tend to carry heavy knives all week. It needs to be worked in a bit, still quite stiff.

I polished the blade up a bit with Flitz, to see how shiny it would get.

I haven't sharpened it yet. Came pretty sharp to me. I had a S30V Millie which I traded away after I got the D2 version, and that was one sharp SOB.
