Been getting some shop time in lately - Pictures added

You make some veeeeery nice blades Stacy! Those are insane. The quality and craftsmanship are out of this world. Amazing.

I hate I cant go to Ashokan and see these in person.

the leather was from Ron Frazier's shop. I am calling it "Dragon Skin".
I took my mom to put flowers on her grandmas gravesite a few months ago and I noticed just a few feet away from her was a headstone with the knifemakers guild logo on it. It was Mr. Frazier. Came home and searched some... what a talent. His headstone said something like ( I hope I am not misquoting) "lived life on his terms" If when its all over and you can say that you are a winner.

Stacey...after looking at the wood you've created I should have had you help me pick out wood for my scales when I met you at WOODCRAFTERS, I'm really disappointed in the Marblewood I ended up with, may just scrap it and go back and find something else...You saw the blade, that Damascus Wharnecliff I'm working on...any suggestions? The guy there told me to go plain to not try to over shadow the Damascus...wish I had asked you.

BTW...absolutely beautiful work...sure you were not a Shinto bladesmith somewhere in very rural Japan in another life? I'd love to come by and watch you make steel sometime...I've realized that I want to know how to do this...

Thanks Capt. Beach. It took me a while, but IIRC, you were a customer of mine at Either Ore in Kempsville about 15 years back. Fire Dept.?
Send me an email and I have a really nice piece of buckeye burl for you that really wants a damascus blade to go with it. I'll be glad to help you get started.

FD. LEO AND SWAT in Ga...I worked at Beach FOrd here for 13 years or so...Yes I have been to Either Ore...didnt know you made knives though or I would have been bothering you sooner...

Very beautiful work. I'm not sure if this is akin to asking to look up a girls skirt but could you show me a photo of the transition from bevel to flat, aka plunge lines but with the camera facing the blade edge? I am interested in how you solved the problem without the traditional bevel running down the nakago. Did this cause the habaki to fit awkwardly? Drachensruchen, sehr gut!

The blade on the wakizashi is a western style grind. It has a plunge line. It started out as a different blade, but ended up as a wak. The habaki was not on it at first, but was needed to make it hold the saya better. I made a quick one to check the fit out. It could be a better fit. I will probably make another and fit it differently.

hey Bladsmth,
I was wondering if you had a pic or two of how you did the leather wrapped wooden handle on the Saex

Stacy, on the long one, the bottom of the curves on the spine appear to dip lower than the the handle and it makes it look funky to me. Might be camera angle or a characteristic of that type of blade.

And as you said, the Wakizashi's blade looks out of proportion to my eye even accounting for camera angle. Just like it more visually when the blade and handle are closer, width wise.

Thanks for sharing.
