Been Looking at the 2010 Catalog

There is a lot of new things in this catalog. I think it a very good year.
Another change that I just think is a great positive change...The bantam series is now going to be made in the USA. I've always liked that pattern but would never buy one due to China production. I will have the large one in a 3 5/8th blade and camo just as soon as I can be assured its American! Very pleased with this move by Buck!

I'm assuming these knifes DO NOT have liners due to the low price. Does anyone have a Bantam and have an opinion about handle rigidity?

The Bantam series is linerless, with a rigid triangular-cell framework inside. At least that's how the old ones were. :)

Have there been any OBJECTIVE data/info that the Chinese made knives are inferior. When they copy something, it's almost sure that quality will not be the greatest but didnt Buck send a team to China and set up the production the way it should be?

This may help:

....l. As for heat treat, we have not necessarily instructed them in precisely how we heat treat, but we have specified certain temperatures and our engineering and new products groups visit to review produciton processing and review quality requirements.

On the subject of Bantams with a USA stamp, these ARE legit. The Bantams are part of our US transition effort. These are now being produced in our plant in Post Falls, ID (yes that is in the good ol' US). There are still some from China out "there" and we are depleting our inventory of the Chinese version. Eventually all of the Bantam series (283, 284, 285, 286) will be built in the US.

I have a 286 black china version and I have found it to be and excellent knife. Handle is solid as a rock. Cant wait to get a USA version. I take this one camping when water or possible loss is involved. Figger I got it for free and its only a $16 knife to begin with.

this one will go in the glove box as soon as I get the USA model- are all the USA's camo

I've been looking through the catalog and also found a lot of interesting offerings.

The 113 looks interesting. The paperstone 110's also. Some very interesting Limited Editions.

and

A whole kitchen cutlery set in Elk!
Also a paperstone cutlery set.

How does the members discount work for the cutlery sets? It states the prices for cutlery are net only, what does that mean? If the Elk set is listed at $796, what would I be paying as a BCCI member?

This looks very nice to me:

Listed @ $430. what would I be paying as a BCCI member?

As far as I know, we don't get a discount, is not like we have a secret hand shake or anything like that. I know that BCCI members can go through Larry Oden and get a discount.

At the 2009 member meeting CJ Buck gave out a discount card to each member in the room. It was for two knives and it was 60% off. I have been looking at the new 112 Yellowhorse, 110 Painted Pony, the 905? WBC and a 5 gen with stag. I am sure I will put the card to good use.

Bottom line, I buy knives from stores, or from web sites just like normal people.

If you are a life member and get the wholesale (50% of SRP) + 10%, I come up with apprx. $250.50 from Larry. Remember that you will pay for shipping from Buck to Larry, then from Larry to you (around $14 my last order). It will be more if you are an annual member, cost +15%.

When are the new knives going to be available? They are not on the web site yet. Can we call them, or do we just have to wait and see when they come up on the site?

Some of the knvies are fairly limited. I think the 110 Painted Pony is limited to 100.

A member discount card was in my packet. All that info is at home now, so I'll have to check on it when I return this evening. For the card, you order direct from the website, I think.
