Beer/metallurgy connection !!

And why shouldn't the two go together? there is an ancient Celtic God, Govanon, god of smithing and brewing

Mete,

I've spent many an hour, staring at wort/head, usually with a beer in

hand.

I can relate, here. Though I always thought, it was the yeast/sugar

interaction, that was generating the beautiful " bubble matrix "

Fred

I'll bring this topic up the next time I'm down to the

Atomic Lounge; The local watering hole.

I wonder if I can get, the regulars, to view there beer, with a

metallurgical eye. Hummm?

all this talk about beer is making me thirsty :p

I don't drink, what's a beer head

Atomic Lounge, now that sounds like a bean eating place :D ;)

so, What beers go best with what steels?

I would guess dark beers with carbon steels, lagers with stainless

Dan said, "I don't drink, what's a beer head".....
You really like to get some static, don't you?
its the same thing as the creamy stuff on top of a mug of A & W root Beer, or B K Root beer mug, of something that tastes even better than beer does, IMHO,.....

OK, I left that wide open didn't I?

Shoot, guys, shoot!

Frankly I honestly like Root Beer...espc. with a good head in a chilled mug, better than beer....sorry Augie Busch, its true.

We are not going there on Martini's though...or Old Weller 107 Antique bourbon........:D

I loved the old A&W root beer stands with the big frozen mugs. Um UM

Remember when they actually brought your order to the car, and the tray hung on your window?

Which beers with which steels ?? Well to bring up another point about beer -- you would assume that in a modern brewery everything is stainless steel .But if it was the wort wouldn't work !! So they have to put in some parts made of copper because that's needed for the wort to function !...In any case when I'm asked about grain growth now I'll sit you down with a glass of beer and discuss the subject.

Not quite mete. I just finished piping up a brewery that was all SS. SS brew kettle, mash/lauter tun, filters, chillers, fermentation tanks, the works. The reason for copper was that it wouldn't react to the wort like iron would. Back in the older days that was a problem, then again they also lined steel tanks with glass to keep the wort from contaminating.

Iron Wolf, thanks for that clarification...Back in my steel mill days those who drank Iron City beer always claimed it was made with mill water [water used for cooling steel in the mill] !!!
