Beer/metallurgy connection !!

Remember when they actually brought your order to the car, and the tray hung on your window?

If you ever make it to Kenosha, Gibson Fan, look up the place called "The Spot". It's been there since the '50's and they still do it just like that. Even the cute young thang carhops still dress up.

Make it on the right evening each week in the summer and they have a "hot car" night. Groove to the doowop and rock'n'roll on the tinny speakers.

Sounds like the place to be on a Saturday night. I can hear the Five Satins hitting their high notes now.

Memory lane; Hot cars, loud pipes and car hops. Love em all.

Well, I was a very young lad, out for a treat with my folks and/or grandparents... but I still had a crush on the waitress(es) :D

All I can say is, HELL yeah :)

My dear ol' Dad once "accidentally" slipped the family Mercury Marquis into neutral 2/3 up the steepest hill in town... played dumb when it began to roll backwards down the hill... lost his poker face when he dropped it into low and stomped on it, filling the car with the smell of burnt gas and rubber smoke and a sweet, terrifying din of whimpering tires and bellowing torque. Mom was not amused. I thought it was cool as a polar bear's ass. :D ...Just to let ya know the frame of mind I grew up with.... ;)

Dom's in Atlantic Beach (or was it Morehead?) NC was the last really cool drive in I went to (back in the 60's). There used to be a dirt road that ran out into the scrub oak right behind it. All the souped up hot cars would drag race there. The local cops would sit and watch. It was the place to kick up your heels and raise a little hell. As long as no one got into a fight, got drunk, or raced on the highway, it was OK. Cute car hops, cars crusin' around in a circle, trying to pick up girls,...... kids being kids without shooting at someone or doing drugs.

I feel sad for today's youth with no good memories to carry on to their older years.

Don't feel TOO bad, Stacy... those of us that have managed to pull our heads from our behinds have found that it's better to focus on the future than to dwell in the memories of the past (sweet or sour)! I am not who I was, I am who I am, and also will be!

Isn't that a quote from the great statesman and spinach gobbler, Popeye

I watch cartoons, too.
