I've just come across this page with some of my favourite pubs on.

Oooh, I fancy a pint.

Wait a minute, I've got one here!

Cheers!

Andy.

I'm feeling a bit frivolous this evening!

Andy.

Ps. Ho hum, I've got to wait 60 seconds.

I can't find Fuller's ESB here in Vt anymore. I used to love that stuff. Is Fuller's considered a good brew in the UK?

According to my "Great Beer Guide" Fuller's ESB (Extra Special Bitter) is a "World Classic".
ESB is a Fuller's brand name in the UK, but a number of US micros have adopted the term for a full, malty, strong bitter.

I had a bottle recently, in a tasting session, (tasted good though there was stiff competition!) but none of the pubs round here carry it.

Oh, yes! Sunny day, country pub, no need to drive, time to spare, kids boggered off somewhere, good company, decent ale...Can't beat it

i have always been amazed by capacity of englishmen to drink beers !
How many stomachs do you have?
Are you genetically modified or what ?
Me, after one liter (one time two liters, but after, i was dead drunk !) i can't drink anymore !
Probably due to the fact that i drink strong belgian beer (7,5 °c)...

But 7, 8 or 9 pints !
amazing !

Practice :) (and starting from an early age)

The problem nowadays seems to be that alot of British youth cannot hold their beer, hence most city centres turning into warzones on a Friday/Saturday night.

In my youth I used to go out for umpteen beers, but I've never been in a drunken fight. For the most part I'd just want to hug everybody :p

And once again the Government totally over-reacts and tries to ban/control the substance, as opposed to controlling the situation.

I personally find French beer too gassy to drink much of. And as for 7.5% beer, it's no wonder if you fall over after 2 litres!!

It worked exactly the opposite way for me - too much practice "trained" my stomach to revolt if I pour beer down too fast :( I used to be able to drink 0.5 liter bottle in one go and down well over half of case (case is 25 bottles) in one evening but nowadays I can only drink 4-5 beers at normal pace before it comes down to a grinding halt, it's just slow sipping from there on ... stupid stomach :grumpy: If I rush it deliberately after 4th or 5th bottle it ends up with :barf:

On the upside this may be a result of me losing ~15-20 kilos over last couple of years; I can't eat as much as I used to either. Less of a beer belly, yay :) Oh and it's been ages since I've been dead drunk, another yay :D

HHHHMMMM beer ,do you guys in the states get real ale or is it just us brits that drink it , its not fizzy and its not cold and it tastes great and not as may additives in it as lager ,Dont mind the odd Bud when the weather is hot but dont really go for the Stella act-a-twat stuff.

Thanks for that web site Andy! Very nice picture of the UK. Never been there but now I think I will put a trip there on my must do list. I do want to get to those pubs!

Note to dunc5 - in the states, there is not a lot of Ale, but we do have lots of beer;)
I do like ale when I can get it. We do have McSorlely's Ale house near me (in New York city) and I have put a few down there over the years. It was started in 1854 and is still going strong.
Take a look...

and come see it!

Cheers to you both,

Another thing is buying 6 pints at the pub for mates at a bar that is 5 deep. Then realising that you dont have any help to get it back and there is no way you are leaving it there. But, since necessity is the mother of invention you always find a way.(Which ususally involves drinking 2 at the bar :) )

My Fav in the UK was Guinness or Murphys, Bitter was a close second, especially in the pub garden or on a Sunday afternoon.

Well, since we're posting pictures now, here a pic of my village local.

For those who have heard of Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson, it used to be their local watering hole for a while and Lawson lived for a few years in the street you see to the right.

Here is a pic of the bar with a couple of locals enjoying a quiet few.

I love beer. And I am not misusing the word love. I love the taste, the way it quenches my thirst, The way it feels flowing down my throat. Unfortunately I am not fond of all the urinating that goes along with beer. So when I go out I have one, (Cuz you gotta have one!) and then switch to burbon on the rocks. At home is a different story. I have my own bathroom and no waiting lines to use it.

I used to have a much greater capacity for beer. When I was younger I could drink a 12 pack in less than 2 hours. I don't know what happened, I drink 4 beers and I feel uncomfortablely full. And it will take me almost 2 hours to manage those 4.

I generally avoid the budweiser products but I was at a BBQ a couple of weeks ago a someone handed me a bud light as I walked in to the backyard. I opened the can took a sip and it tasted like someone had diluted the beer with tap water. I have had bud light in the past and never remember it being this weak, What happened?

I like a good Stella or 5 once in a while.

Can't drink the local Canadian stuff anymore.
