Hey guys,

I'm been very interested in making my own blades and handles. So I decided finally to make it hapen. I have a few questions.

Where and how much can I buy a begginer blade crafting kit?
Who are good and cheap suppliers of stainless steel?
Where can I find guides and videos how to start and what not begginer mistake be aware?

Thanks very much.

Welcome to Shop Talk.

First, fill out your profile. Knowing your age, location, occupation, and hobbies will help us give you better advice. It may also let a local maker know you are around, and offer direct help and instruction.
The Count will chime in soon with his post to newbies. Read all of it...twice. That will help you get started much better.

A "blade crafting kit" sounds like a good idea, though I have never seen one. I'd say there are any number of ways such a kit might be compiled and sold, based one all of the topics started over the years with titles like "What do I need to get started making knives?" As noted, The Count has a link to the compiled wisdom of the ages on this subject. There are essentials, and then there are the things every knifemaker eventually needs but usually can't afford (or justify) at the outside.

Starting with stainless is probably not the best approach, however. Most of us start out with basic carbon steel. Stainless is harder to heat treat properly, so unless you are sending your blades out for professional heat treatment, you might consider working your way toward stainless in a stepwise fashion.

In any case, welcome to the forum. I hope you have fun.
