Begining of a Becker Journey - 1 Year With the Becker Escabar BK14

Hey man, it happens to the best of us, and honestly wasn't your original goal to get as familiar with the BK14 as you could? If so, you achieved that, and determined that it wasn't for you. Happens to plenty of folks, so don't beat yourself up over it. Congrats on the kid and good luck with the bar exam!

Hey guys, sorry it has been so long. Between studying for the bar, working fulltime (being the only one working in the family) and finding out I am having my second child, life just got in the way. You guys are an awesome community and I wrestled with what I should write for a while now.

I sold the BK14.

I just could not get used to the ergonomics. I have large hands and my pinky was hanging off of it and it REALLY bugged me. This is not a knock against the design rather my own odd almost OCD-like quirks. If something doesn't feel right in my hand, be it a camera, knife or gun then it REALLY REALLY bothers me and makes that object almost intolerable. While this knife has one of the best blade shapes, thickness, heat treat and cutting ability, I just could not get over my pinky hanging off of it. I also learned that I much prefer having a folder on me as an edc than I do a fixed blade. While if I could only have 1 blade for the rest of my life it would most certainly be a fixed blade, but while fortunately it has not come to that point, I much prefer having a folder on me.

I am sorry that this thread did not turn out the way I planned it to be and in a way I feel like I let many down, but I can assure you that I will always own a Becker knife. I saved some coffee money up and bought a BK9 that rides in my trunk.

Thank you for all that have read what I wrote so far. You guys are amazing and I truly feel like this is a community.
Have you messed at all with the BK-16? The blade is only an inch or so larger, but the handles are significantly larger. It offers a full hand grip instead of a 3.5 finger grip.

Great thread and a grand idea......But, ya need the tool that fits your hand.......Glad you have the Nine.......

All Best....

Ethan
