I have a couple blocks of steel, they are 1 3/4" thick by 5 inches long by 11 tall, I saw them and thought great size for a beginner anvil or small portable. I am not sure if they are any sort of good steel or not but IMHO it doesn't really matter much for this. I am thinking of welding up some small tabs on them for feet and offering them for sale as beginner's anvils, cheap good blocks of good size steel for a small anvil to get started on banging hot steel. They come in at about 27 pounds, and will be easily bolted to a stump or bench with 3/8ths lag screws got at any hardware store.
