i know there has been allot of discussion about this but i was wondering if maybe there are some fresh thoughts? Right now the grizzly 2x72 is calling my name but i could save up more (somewhere around 1k) and possibly get a nicer one. Are the grizzly really that bad? What are some other brands in the price range that will do the job?

i do not know about grizzlys being bad, but i do not think there are many attachments for them. some guys use cootes and grizzlys and do fine.

As I have said before, getting a grinder kit (GIB, Oregon, etc.) with a flat platen and a contact wheel, along with a VFD and motor package will cost less and give you more.

Kevin McGovern has posted his design and CAD info to get a really nice one cut out by a water jet cutter. That would cost a bit more than the cheaper kits, but would be a really nice grinder when done ... all for about the price of an entry level grinder.
