Beginner friction folder

So my first couple attempts at making a blade failed, but I bought some new steel to keep at it. This time I got some 5/32" 01 so I can HT myself. I am going to try my hand at a friction folder. I have two questions for the folder makers. 1: Can I just use wood for the scales or do I need to back it up with a more ridged material? I haven't seen too many that were made from wood and never with enough detail to see. 2: What is the best hardware for the pivot? I have seen some with the chainring bolt and some with a post and screws on both sides. Here is a photo of the blade, pre-grind:

Thanks for looking,

It might be the photo, but that blade looks like it will stick out the back of the knife when closed....or won't close.

Normally you make the folder with cardboard templates and make sure everything will rotate right and fit in the space provided.

Well, it's your first knife so try some good strong wood like oak or such. You can buy pivot pins of several sorts or perhaps even make your own. I'm not recommending much since you are into what can be a very involved making thing which usually demands a lot of precision, but hey, enjoy yourself. A search for liner locks may help clarify.

Actually, I created my template in a drawing program and made several paper test pieces and it will fold nicely stopping with the tip of the blade about an 1/8" inside the edge of the handle. I will post a pick of the drawing later as it is much clearer than the photo.

Here is the template I made for the knife. I use inkscape as my drawing program. Not a CAD program, but it works for me and was freeware.
