I am currently trying to learn this craft up here in N.E Ohio with no bladesmiths in the area to learn from. I picked up the Wayne Goddard's book today and it was a good buy considering I have a quick reference in my shop now. I want to learn as much as I can, so thats why I ask if anyone is willing to have a newbie swing by to have a look see on whats the correct way of working material. I am only doing stock removal at this time since I am working out of the basement. So far I have completed two knives , which came out quite well. I have 2yrs in a manual machine shop as experience. So I have some know how, well sorta.. I plan on doing some forge welding when the weather stabilizes up here tho so I will set up a make shift bbq forge in the backyard then. I am a good listener and I learn quickly, that should make the process go a whole lot smoother

So would anyone out there take a fledgling noobie into there shop and show them how its done properly?

Thanks in advance to whomever may consider,
Adam

The books available currently are really nice. It is my opinion that the same information is available in the "Stickies." With that being said, read, read it again. Then sit the book aside. While they are good information, there is nothing quite like hands on experience. Buy a cheap piece of steel and some files. Make something pointy. Then post pictures and get feed back. You will learn much more from doing a project than you will from reading of someones project. Just my opinion. Remember to have fun. Its no longer a hobby if it seems like work.

Adam, I would not have a problem if you wanted to come down to Barberton and hang out. Although I am not a master at making knives I can show you what it takes to make a knife. I sent you an email on the best time to come down.
