Beginner knife maker: Friction folder and my little shop tour

Not finished the video but a couple things I notice are the dust collector and band saw. That band saw is for wood only and runs too fast for steel. That's why it won't cut well, and is just going to cook blades and frustrate you. Secondly the dust collection is a great idea except for the sparks being sucked up. Hot sparks in a dust collector is a recipe for a house fire, which nobody wants.

Eddie, good videos are hard to do, that's why I haven't done any, lol :-)
my feeling is that the video length is too long, I like short concise videos.
Of course you want to work on the shakiness and movement of the camera during filming.

There are more qualified makers here who can comment on the equipment and design etc.
But I did like the personalized nature of your video and it seems like you have a wonderful family and you are making it happen so you are inspiring. :-)

warm regards

@Grayzer86 Thanks for the tips! I'm going to look into the dust collector issue asap....last thing I want is a house fire! Is there some kind of filter or something I can get for it to prevent that?

Thanks man! Its all a process...I'm looking to improve in all areas :)

If you read the BF rules, you can't discuss selling without a proper membership.

And I got 3 minutes in, I can't watch that..

Welcome to the fray
Dust collector damn dangerous in that configuration. Exit the hose straight outside or you will have a fire. Your house will be filled with micro sized metal/G10/wood dust.
Congrats on the new one BTW! You need to keep your better half safe fom the contaminates.
Common mistake for newbs. You will quickly find the limits of those machines in a matter of months and wind up replacing them... Ask me how I know this :)
My suggestion from experience is use all the money from your first 10 blades you sell and upgrade the equipment.
Buy the best from the start: Hardcore or BurrKing grinder, Paragon or Evenheat HT oven, Jet or better drill press Etc All the other stuff will fall into place as you find you "Need It"
After using my KMG grinder for 6yrs it lacks the precision needed as My skillset improved so a BurrKing or better yet a Hardcore grinder is in the plans this year.
Save yourself (And all of us) grief by reading the stickies at the top before getting flamed for asking questions that have been answered hundreds of times before

Oh Yeah Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice and Practice Practice some more.
Remember a large %tage of the You Tube vids on knifemaking are crap. There good ones so watch for the pro's.

Thanks for the advice! I'm working on a spark arrestor/quench bucket to make the dust collector safe.Shawn Hatcher has been helping me with that. I think I'm gonna make a quick video once that is done and throw it up here.

Do you have any pics or video of your work? I'd like to check it out :)
