Hello;

I am looking for a hobby since I am near retirement. I would like to take up knife making. Is anyone aware of any classes or individuals who make knives near Appleton, WI.? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We have a whole knifemaker/bladesmith section here on the forum. I'd recommend heading over there and checking out the stickies and then start reading threads. Youtube can be a big help as well to get a more visual idea of the written topics covered in the forum. You have a big support staff here, so take advantage of it. Many top professionals at your fingertips. I learned on these forums, so I'm sure you can too. It's really all about "doing it" as you have to develop the "feel". Drill press, Craftsman 2x42, some belts from Tru-grit, files, vice and some carbon steel is all you need.

Best of luck

I'm about 1 hour away, Dave Ricke is down in West Bend, Quite a few makers
in Wis. Make sure to do the Badger knife show in Janesville (late March).
Ken.

It would be well worth the trip to visit Ken. He is a great guy, with an incredible amount of knowledge. To really open him up, be sure to bring chocolate doughnuts. ;-)
