Beginner Patina Question

I wanted my first knife to be a camping chopper. One that can do some serious damage to wood. My next few should be more practical. That sketch is going to be my next attempt at a knife. It's a bit more scaled down. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'm open to criticism.
